The longest living cells in the human body are the brain cells-can live an entire lifetime.

Man...knowledge is growing so fast that 90% of what we will know in 50 years time, will be discovered in those fifty years.

And according to an old English system of time units, a moment is one and half minutes....pretty cool huh?...only takes a momentor two to play a tune.

Vulture poo is a sanitizer. They often poo on their legs and feet after walking a carcass and it kills any bacteria they pick up.

You cannot divide 9 by 0 ... The question "what is 9 divided by 0" is simply another way of asking the question "which number, when multiplied by 0, gives you 9?" There is no such number, and therefore no answer to the question.

A million seconds is 12 days.
A billion seconds is 31 years.
A trillion seconds is 31,688 years
.... (now think of that in dollars) I bet you thought a million was a lot. [link=http://oddhammer.com/tutorials/debt_clock/US_debt_clock.swf]http://oddhammer.com/tuto...lock/US_debt_clock.swf

The Pintailed Tree shrew is a chronic alcoholic. It spends abut 2 hours every night drinking. It's drinking is the equivalent of a human drinking 10 to 12 glasses of wine every night.

In the human body: There's about 6 trillion separate operations going on in every cell in every second.

When you sneeze, all your bodily functions stop even your heart. (I may be an exception... sometimes my butt works when I sneeze).

A cockroach can live several weeks with it's head cut off.

Two rats can parent 15,000 rats in less than a year.

A single pregnant german cockroach can result in 500,000 roaches in a year. You can kill 90% of a german roach infestation and have more than you started with one month later.

A rat can fall from a five story building without injury. A rat can get through any hole it can fit it's head through.

Coconuts kill more people in the world than sharks do.

To piggyback on the above:

The original concept for Stephen Spielberg's first major movie was about a rogue coconut and not a shark.  Entitled "Husk!" it was scrapped when a massive campaign was mounted by the MARS candy company in defense of their Almond Joy and Mounds products.  They claimed the movie would frighten movie-goers into a world-wide "coconut phobia".  This fact coupled with actor Robert Shaw's refusal to play the wiley ol coconut cracker "Quint" unless he could wear a utility belt with an oversized solid gold hammer eventually doomed the project.

Starship's truly appalling "We Built This City" is about San Francisco.

Actually (an interesting fact) William T. Sherman was there when it was being built and was the president/manager/whatever of the only bank in town that forsaw and weathered a run on the money because of (IIRC) mismanagement at other banks, one bigone in particular. He went in the night and called notes due so as to have coin in the vault the next day. One gave him the money with the understanding that when it was over they would get the coin back. The bank withstood the whold first day of the run and had money left in the vault and restored confidence. He never even had to open the bags of coin he got that night... and returned them unopened.
He was actually a very good businesman and a good general, if a bit ruthlesss.

In any case Starship didn't build anything. Much of SF was built on land reclaimed from the bay... sort of like lower Manhattan. Nuther fact: they uncovered a clipper ship that had been scuttled and used as land fill long ago when they were digging out to rebuild the WTC?

Steve, Steve, Steve...  Sheeping is never a competition!

Spot on with the other though - Took Sir Eric Bristow out of the Los Angeles Open in 1985 (and nearly took him outside the next week at the North American Open - lol!).

The other is far more obscure.  I trained as a speed skater when I was young and beat the #1 ranked skater (named Russ - last name long forgotten - out of Florida) back in 1981 in a 3,000m event.  Obscure because it was a longer distance race on roller skates which never made it to the Olympics though it did make it to the Pan Am Games.  I was a bit too young for the Puerto Rico games in 1979 and was declared ineligible from the Venezuela games in 1983 because they said I was taking sponsorship - roight...

I think this qualifies as a Random Fact, though I'm not sure if I've held up the "Interesting" portion of the requirement...

Maybe not, but in certain parts of Wales, it is considered a form of foreplay

Cool stories on the skating and the darts though. Bristow did an exhibition at our local pub a couple of years back - it was a bit disappointing because all he did was play (pretty poorly) against the darts team, no banter or anything else interesting

I wonder if the French were a bit annoyed about that...

Yeah, he hasn't been the same since he had a condition that makes it hard to throw.  I've had a couple of other World Champions stay at my house when they were out for exhibitions on the West Coast of the US (including Bob Anderson) and I've heard plenty of good stories about the 'ol Crafty Cockney - he's definitely changed (for the better) over the last few years.
