Rapture "1.2" feature suggestion

Hi Rene,

There's something I've been wanting to be able to do in Rapture...it's already possible to ring modulate one oscillator with another one, right? Well, what if you added hard sync? Hard sync with wavetables is something I don't think anyone has done before (except possibly in Pentagon?) -- and with Rapture's complex pitch envelopes and LFOs, you could get some VERY interesting sounds. The modulators of the synced oscillator would change the tone, not the pitch, and would be really awesome. Or is that too hard to implement while avoiding aliasing?

Just a suggestion....

Yeah, I agree this would be a cool feature. The Ensoniq ESQ-1 and SQ-80 let you do this and it allows for some radically different timbres than sync using traditional waveforms. Especially with the SQ-80.. syncing a saw wave with one of the 8-bit drum samples made for some tasty, metallic sounds.

That would be cool. I remember an old post on this forum or maybe in Craig Anderton's pro review where Rene listed hard sync as one of the features Z3ta+ had over Rapture.

    I agree.

Oscillator sync and wave sequencing are a couple of things that Rapture is really missing.
With Discoverer and Synth1 hard sync allows building very biting sounds, do not know z3ta+.

I think I would be much more appealed by z3ta+ if it had a GUI similar to Dimension and Rapture; GUI is not that trivial in a synth IMHO, especially when it helps speeding up tweaking.

Also, I don't know if you can choose oscillators behavior when a new note is played: I mean, oscillator should allow choosing if it has to reset phase or go free run. Maybe Rapture can do it using sfz directives?

    Thanks,
    Mario

There was a short thread about this here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.asp?m=840229&mpage=1&key=rapture%2Cfree%2Crunning󍍢

Apparently you can set free running in the mod matrix, by enabling multi, or with sfz. However this guy seemed to get different results. I've done some simple tests with multi mode to see for myself that it does in fact make the oscillators start with a different phase with each key on.

Thanks a lot Dan_E10; checking it now :)
