Rapture LE 64 Problem...

I posted this in the Sonar Producer forum and barely got anything...

Special thanx to Olskool for trying..

I have X1 Producer Expanded D installed and am trying to
record a VERY SIMPLE piece of music....

It's Addictive Drums and Rapture LE...both SIMPLE instrument tracks...
The Rapture patch is Lo-Fi Drama...

When I play the part with out the transport in motion everything is PERFECT...

The second the transport is moving, either to record or just playback the Drum part...

The MAIN note in the Lo-Fi Drama patch is pretty much GONE...

It's about HALF of the sound that is actually in the patch...

I've done EVERYTHING I could possibly think of to fix this...to no avail..

It is ONLY with the transport moving that the problem exists....

I even tried to record the same music in Presonus Studio One 2 Professional...with the EXACT SAME RESULTS...
I removed the Quad-Capture and used my Realtec HD Audio....same result...
I tried freezing the parts to see if that would help...NOPE...
Exporting - SAME
I tried JUST RAPTURE in the project to see if there was some input or phase issue between the two instruments...
SAME RESULT EXACTLY....half the sound goes missing when the transport is moving...

Weirdest thing I've ever encountered and can't seem to get anyone who can replicate the problem...

I'm using a Quad-Capture interface....and an Akai LPK-25 Keyboard...
Every other synth works PERFECTLY....recording or playing...and I have a TON OF THEM....
no issues with any of those... It only seems to be affecting Rapture LE...
Rapture version is 1.22 btw...

Anyone?

    Well, 2 days and nothing.....

    Not even a Cake response...

    Pretty sad...

After eliminating EVERYTHING other then Rapture LE, I'm inclined to believe
this is an issue with the Rapture software...and no one wants to own up or

admit to it...it may be a combination of the LPK-25 and Rapture LE that is causing the probem
    also....don't really know.

I've even gone to another computer and get the same result...
So, I guess my music goes unrecorded.

Hopefully a future update to Rapture will resolve this...
Only time will tell...for now, at least it's recorded....and maybe
something in the future will fix this....

Did you notice any drop out at the Dropout indicator at the transport module ?

If not sure where the indicator is, go to Sonar help file, at the index, search "Dropout indicator".

It's not a dropout tomixornot.....everything else is fine...it's only a loss of sound in the
Rapture patch....all other sounds are there (drums)

I've changed sample rates, changed every MIDI setting, unloaded and reloaded Rapture, etc...

I even get the same result in a different host (Presonus Studio One 2)

Quite an interesting situation, and I can't believe that it's confined to "just my computer"
    Not after all I've tried...

Olskook said he had no problem with the Lo-Fi Drama Patch...but he also has Rapture installed, and that
may affect Rapture LE...I honestly don't know...

What I find MOST ODD...is that it only happens when the transport is moving....otherwise...the patch plays
    perfectly.....

I have both Rapture, and the LE.. and for this test, I use LE, and locate the Lo-Fi Drama patch as well.

Could it be the starting note not in sync with the bar ? When you play the patch by itself, a full attack can be heard. But if I record it by not starting the note on beat 1, the full attack sound is not there, as LE is not in sync with the tempo ?

Do you record with the metronome ? After recording you can try to quantize the track.

Edit : Correction of what I said earlier.. "LE is not in sync with the tempo"..  What I really wanted to say was when playback is started, LE is _in_synch_ with the tempo, but the playback/recorded note may not fall onto the main beat that the step generator is running.

Did you start the song with one full empty measure? starting at measure 2 is good practice across the board.

Yes Mystic38, it starts at measure 2.  I just don't understand WHY anything to do with the tempo or transport would affect
the notes played.  It's not set up as a "tempo based effect"  so don't think there should be any issues...but, that's just me
thinking logically...ya never know with software....especially DAW software...

What tomixornot is describing is exactly what's happening...the main note is not playing or is cut off slightly, while the underlying effects are still there....it is, as I said, quite a strange problem...

    tomixornot was correct...

It was the Step Generator that was the issue.  Apparently it is tied to
the project tempo.  Which is really quite sad.  Tempo for an Instrument
shouldn't be tied to the tempo of A project without some way to release it
or set the tempo in the instrument itself without tying it to the Project.

That, to me, is poor design.

Maybe the full version of Rapture can bypass this?

    Anyone know?

    cclarry,

By design, step generator will sync to the tempo. It's like an automated arpeggiator that you can define the steps. So, if song tempo changes, the steps played need to change as well. I think you cannot turn off the sync with full Rapture as well.

If you're using this patch as some atmospheric effect, you may have to sample the note for playback (align the note properly first for full attack). I think DropZone handles sampling, which I have not tried.

I guess that was my point.  WHY would they TIE an instrument to a project, rather then make it an independent entity?

There should be "Tempo" setting in Rapture so that it can be set independently of the project.  That way the project "Tempo"
won't cut off notes, and it NEVER SHOULD...EVER, regardless of situation.  That's VERY POOR, VERY LAZY, software design.
In my opinion, THAT is FLAW in the instrument.   When playing an instrument EXTERNAL situations shouldn't interfere with "INTERNAL" operations.

That makes for good software design.  Cake decided to "save some programming time" and MONEY and just link it to the project.  I can see
setting the TEMPO to sync with the project. but the TEMPO itself should be ENTIRELY independent, and that "link" should NEVER OVERIDE the instrument attack or sound, which should be based SOLELY on the NOTES AND VELOCITIES PLAYED.

I've NEVER used a piece of software that did this.....that's like playing in band and every time the drummer hits the bass drum my guitar chord
    goes silent....it DEFEATS THE PURPOSE!!!

But, I'm sure others will sing it's praises....what do I know anyways?

    cclarry,

    Good news!
I was playing around with the patch further. You can set sync off. At the STEP screen, there is a "Sync" setting. You need to set it off for each element 1 to 6. Click each E1..E6 and turn sync off will do.

The full attack can be obtained now, regardless where you start playing.

    Cheers!

    Thanx tomixornot...

I had already tried that.  When you set Sync to off...YES you do get the full attack....BUT you lose the sub-steps...
and that is the part that makes the song what it is.

I'm pretty bummed about the whole thing....but it is what is is....

Maybe the next update of Rapture will fix this...one can hope...
