Rapture Pro freebie instrument - Karplangor

Karplangor for Rapture Pro

This is a basic template, an unfinished instrument, for Rapture Pro. I intended this to be a type of 'heavy metal harpsichord' instrument. It has an intense pluck, which you may want to soften with a suitable amplitude envelope.

Contents include the basic SFZ file with samples and a Rapture Pro program file and element file (and a screen-shot of the Rapture Pro screen as shown above).

Download from here:

http://www.arachnaut.net/Cakewalk/RapturePro/Karplangor.rar

(36.5 MB)

To use:

  1. Unpack the archive and you will find this 'read me', a 'Multisamples' folder and a 'Programs' folder.
  2. In the Multisamples folder, copy or move the 'Karplangor' folder to your Rapture Pro 'Multisamples' folder.
  3. In the Programs folder, copy or move the User 'Electric Pianos' folder to your Rapture Pro 'User/User' Programs folder. You may have a different user folder set up. The Karplangor program and Rapture 'element' are located in the Electric Piano folder. Put it somewhere else if you like. I set the instrument type for Karplangor to be 'Electric Piano'.
There are 3 sets of full range multisamples from C-2 to G8 in p, mf, and ff levels with C and G sampled in each octave, 66 samples in all. These are long one-shots recorded in 24-bit 48KHz WAV format.

These samples originated in a version of the CSound 'pluck' algorithm - a Karplus-Strong plucked string model. I made the originals sometime in 2009.

The basic instrument program has 3 copies of the samples in three elements, with each one slightly detuned and panned. The PROG and ELEM files are included. There are no other parameters set up, tweak away as you like. I will probably work on this for a while as I get to learn Rapture Pro and maybe I'll post another version when I finish. I mainly used this as a way to learn how to make SFZ files. The SFZ has the P samples using velocity 0-54, the MF are 55-107, and FF are 108-127 - edit these to your needs.

You may use these files any way you like, no strings (ouch!) attached.

Thanks! I was playing with it. Does it have some sort of reverb/delay on the sample itself?

I like it. I was just messing around with the on-screen keyboard. I did try all three velocities. Sounds good.

Will have to get it on the up stairs keyboard. But that won't happen till I can authorize Rap Pro off-line.

    Thanks again.

    All the samples are dry.

However, I have them set to play in 3 voice unison with slight detuning and panning, so there is a chorus effect.

Mute elements 2 and 3 to hear just the basic sample.

If the initial pluck gets to be too much just add a standard ADSR envelope to the Amp. That's a feature of the Karplus-strong algorithm - it starts with a DC setting. I think I hand-edited the first few samples data points, but I made these a long time ago, so I forget.

I like them the way they are. Not going to change them. Well I won't save over them!! But I may "adjust" somethings and save it as a new setting. I am having fun with them. Thanks again!

Late here, but gave it a quick trial. (You had me at Heavy Metal Harpsichord!)  Pretty cool sounds.  Thanks for sharing!

Cool sample set!  Thanks for sharing.  It's interesting how much the algo changes in the low end between semitones.  It sounds great in Rapture with a bit of LP Filter tracking and a touch of Chamber verb.

I might try chopping the samples then using them as waveguides in Rapture Pro.  Physical Modeling in CSound into Karplus in Rapture Pro!

I have updated the instrument for Rapture Pro.

Here is a demo song played dry (Taxi theme song):

    http://www.arachnaut.net/Cakewalk/RapturePro/Taxi%20theme.wav

    Download:

    http://www.arachnaut.net/Cakewalk/RapturePro/Karplangor.rar

    Image:

    Description:

I intended this to be a type of 'heavy metal harpsichord' instrument. It
has an intense pluck, which you can soften with the 'Pluckiness'
    control.

Contents include the basic SFZ file with samples and a Rapture Pro
program file and element file (and a screen-shot of the Rapture Pro
screen). A demo song of the Taxi theme is also included.

    To use:

    1) Unpack the archive and you will find this 'read me', a 'Multisamples'
    folder and a 'Programs' folder.

    2) In the Multisamples folder, copy or move the 'Karplangor' folder to
    your Rapture Pro 'Multisamples' folder.

    3) In the Programs folder, copy or move the User 'Electric Pianos'
folder to your Rapture Pro 'User/User' Programs folder. You may have a
different user folder set up. The Karplangor program and Rapture
'element' are located in the Electric Piano folder. Put it somewhere
else if you like. I set the instrument type for Karplangor to be
    'Electric Piano'.

There are 3 sets of full range multisamples from C-2 to G8 in p, mf, and
ff levels with C and G sampled in each octave, 66 samples in all. These
are long one-shots recorded in 24-bit 48KHz WAV format.
These samples originated in a version of the CSound 'pluck' algorithm -
a Karplus-Strong plucked string model. I made the originals sometime in
    2009.

The basic instrument program has 6 copies of the samples in 6 elements,
with each one slightly detuned and panned to give a chorus-like effect.
The PROG and ELEM files are included.

The SFZ has the P samples using velocity 0-54, the MF are 55-107, and FF
are 108-127 - edit these to your needs.

Since the Karplus-Strong algorithm generates a DC offset, I used the
'Pluckiness' control to offset the sample start position to get around
    that. Adjust for your taste.

The included demo from the Taxi theme song has 'Pluckiness' set mid-way.
The song was recorded dry with no effects or EQ. The MIDI file for the song
came from a Soniccouture sample demo set.

By the way, each element is set with 'infinite' unison and these are really long samples.
So it takes quite a bit of CPU when lots of notes are playing.
You can change the unison number and/or disable some of the elements if you like.

I don't have Rapture Pro, but do have the older version. Seeing that these are SFZ files, will they also work in the non-Pro version?

The SFZ file should be 'universal' - able to be played in anything that supports sfz.
