Rapture Pro packs install confusion

Hi,

If I've understood this, RPro installs the contents of all the expansion packs into the RP default 'Factory' bank -yes/no?

I'm completely confused and frustrated - I have absolutely no if the various pack contents have been installed or if any are missing - I thought the packs would show up as banks, like Addictive Drums 2.

Can anyone please help me to:
a: work out what is installed
  b: where it's installed and
c: how to possibly create banks for the packs?

Thank you in advance

Gary

The expansion packs would show up in the Program Browser, if they are contained in their own program Category.  I theorize that if an expansion pack were to use existing category names, that it might do a 'merge' between the old and new - for that category.

You can look at the Registry Key values for paths relevant to Rapture Pro, as well.

Did you do a Database Rebuild/Refresh after installation of expansion packs?  If not, open Rapture Pro (same for Rapture and for Dimension Pro, by the way), and then click on the Program Browser to open up and display the Programs.

Once that is open, hit F5, and it tells Rapture Pro, or the other programs, to rebuild/refresh their database.  This is what you should do any time you install expansion packs.

Does this help?  I have a number of expansion packs loaded, and all are showing up just fine, once the database has been refreshed/rebuilt.

Hi Bob,

Thanks, but no change.

However, I saw a post that said the packs would be merged with the default. Is this right? If so, the packs probably won't show up in as banks.

Any idea what the reg values should be? That's probably the way to sort this out.

Thanks again

Do they show up in your Program Data?

C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Rapture Pro\Programs

Hi Bob

'C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Rapture Pro\Programs' doesn't exist, only 'C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Rapture Pro\' and it's empty.

Should I be seeing a \programs folder?

Thanks

Gary

By default RPro puts nothing is in ProgramData except an empty folder. Not sure why the installer insists on creating the folder, it is not used for anything.

The programs by default are in "C:\Cakewalk Content\Rapture Pro\Programs." The actual location depends on where Cakewalk Content was setup when SONAR was installed.

The samples by default are in "C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Data\Rapture Pro." The actual location depends on what you entered when installing RPro.

Bob, Scook, Shellstax

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your help here. I know CW are great at sorting out issues but this is one big one that shouldn't be happening. IMHO the original content / packs should be imported as-is and not merged or given the choice at some point. I've logged this with tech support too.

I'll take a look a the link above when I get time.

Thanks again

Re: Rapture Pro packs install confusion 2015/07/25 07:29:35 (permalink)
Guys, I hope we're getting to the bottom of this -

I've trawled through and lifted out this info - do you think it looks like the packs are installed properly?

Shellstax - I checked my reg entries against your post and they seem to concur.

So, I installed to the default folders in my c:\ drive. I can see a number of folders:

Under C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Data\Rapture Pro\ are:
\LFO Waveforms
\Multisamples
\Tunings

Under \Multisamples are
size: 12.9 GB
25,954 Files, 777 Folders

folders start at:
\00 - Wavetables to \98 - Special then \Accordions to \YC-25D including Garritan PO and Gold Top Expansion Pack then a list of wav files

******************************

Under C:\Cakewalk Content\Rapture Pro are:
\EG
\Elements
\Midi
\Programs
\Sample pool
\SG

Under \Pograms are:
\Dimension Pro
\Dimension Pro (legacy)
\Rapture
\Rapture (legacy)
\Rapture Pro
\User

Does this look like a proper install? Is there anything I can do in RP to check like search for some particular progs that might confirm the install?

Thanks again -  hoping I'm chasing my tail for nothing here!

My multisample count agrees with what you have. I imagine you have a good install. I cannot make out the embedded image, you need to host the image elsewhere and include the link in your post. This forum does not supported embedded images. Other than that, the rest of the info looks OK.

I suggest you enable logging in the program menu and check the log file.

The log file (..\Cakewalk ContentRapture Pro\Logs\...) should look something like this:

08:34:44 [ Start Up ] Plug-in Path = "G:\VST-64\Cakewalk\Rapture Pro\"

Seconded (with scook) Gary ...

My Multisamples count is the same and your structures are correct.

Re Programs - legacy directory sizings may be different 'cause we'll have purchased different expansion packs ... but the Factory content sizing should be the same ...
Rapture Pro      - 2.76MB, 861 Files, 20 Folders
Dimension Pro    - 18.1 MB, 2269 Files, 20 Folders
Rapture          - 30.2 MB, 1308 Files, 20 Folders
(the 20 folders are the same 20 instrument 'types')

Re: Rapture Pro packs install confusion 2015/07/25 12:40:59 (permalink)
Thanks guys,

Sheelstax, I have the exact same so I guess I have a full install.
Arachnaut, I enabled logging and inspected it - all seems fine.

I guess everything is working as it should, but there's still no way to identify which samples/progs belong to a pack and it seems no available lists of pack contents to check agains. Maybe I'm wrong there?

I still think it would have been better to see the packs installed and identified rather than a 'blind' merge which communicates a very large feedback void!

Anyhow, thank for all your help -

Kindest regards

Gary

I think this is one if the areas of Rap Pro that is missing. Sample management. After install I should be able to go into settings and see what sample pack I've installed. Much like the Addictive drums installer...

Well - to perhaps have a choice to arrange by pack too. Legacy 3rd party / expansion packs are split to directory - so are identifiable. But things like Gold Tops and Pianet are not (assume Guitars / EPianos resp) - we'd have to look into the installer (with 7zip for now). I'd assume 'pack' could be a simple tag to the .prog if it's not there already. But we do have a search now (still won't necessarily assist with what's in a 'pack').

I'm still hoping that the Browser will get a decent overhaul in an update.
( I actually prefer the old expandable/collapsable tree / resizable format)
- I have little interest in reverse alphabetical ordering of bank and type.
- I'd like to see Banks movable (by mouse drag) to where I want them.
- I'd like to see 'favorites' rather than, or in addition to, most/least used.

FWIW e.g,
PianetT Pack contains/is used in:
Atmospheric:
   Trail of Doom2JAL.prog
Electric Guitars:
   Guitarmosphere.prog
Electric Pianos:
   Delicate Pianet FS.prog
   Mellow EP 1.prog
   Soft EP 2.prog
   Soft EP.prog
Pianos:
   Prepared Piano 1.prog
