Rapture pro Vst 2
How would you install Rapture Pro using the command center and just use it as a VST2 ? (Ableton doesn't accept VST3) I tried 'Verbose' and had no options about vsts. I'm not sure how that works really. Thank you

At the moment the RPro installer installs both the VST2 and VST3 formats. I suppose you can manually delete the VST3 if you wish.

Thanks Scook I guess that's my question: where is the VST3 to delete? I looked in program files/cakewalk/ vst plugins/ rapture pro ?

I believe the VST3 spec recommends 64bit plug-ins go in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3" and 32bit go in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VST3." Depending on the installation options selected the RPro installer puts the VST3 plug-in in a folder in those paths.

Trust his input over mine, I was just brainstorming out loud. If you don't find the VST3 by the time I am allowed studio time I will join the search. Of course, this is assuming you used recommended installation options as I did?

OK, getting closer! So I just reinstalled and Rapture Pro appears in the VST3, but not in the VST2 ( in C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 like you said) What I am needing to do is run it as a VST2. So, do I just move it to the VST2 folder ? or delete it out of the VST3 folder? Thanks Ara

By default, the VST2 format installs in "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins" but you can specify where to install VST2 plug-ins in the Command Center on the path tab in the Settings page. The VST2 format has a .dll extension.

Hooray! Thanks Scook you da man! I deleted the VST3 version out. Now Ableton finds just the VST2 version I guess. Yay, after a week off with problem solving, get to make music again with Rapture Pro :)

no didn't work- now a set in Ableton Live with 3 ZTA2 and 3 Rapture Pro and 3 SI drums crashes when I close it. I can get it open though ~

Did you ever get this resolved? I thought the default installation installs both VSTi and VST3. That means that Ableton needs to be pointed at the correct folder for the VSTi file with the .dll extension. In my set-up that's ...cakewalk\vstplugins\Rapture\Rapture x64.dll, but the file name depends on whether you've installed the 32-bit or 64-bit version. (Mine's x64) If both VST versions (2 and 3) are installed, the presence of the VST3 file shouldn't have any impact on your VST plugin operation. By the way, the VST standard 2.0 is often just referred to as VST or VSTi. I think they are all interchangeable.

If Abelton does not use VST3 plug-ins then the VST3 isn't your issue - they are different file formats. VST3 plug-ins have a "vst3" file extension, for example Boogex.vst3 VST plug-ins have a "dll" extension for example Boogex.dll A program that can't use VST3 plug-ins just doesn't see them because it doesn't recognize the file format. More than likely your Rapture VST2 plug-in is just in a location (for example C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins) that you don't have Abelton set up to scan (search in).
If you still can't locate the VST2 version search your hard disk for either "Rapture.dll" or "Rapture x64.dll" depending on if you want the 32 or 64 bit. Once you find it either set Ableton to include that folder in it's VST scan path or copy it to where Ableton will find it.
