Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan

This was just added to Netfilx streaming.

I watched it last night and am watching it again now. It seems like a treat to see all the cool production methods in one presentation:

    Good find McQ.

I've just ordered the 2-disc Blu-Ray from Amazon (which at £7 is actually cheaper than the DVD at £8.25)

    Thanks for the heads-up.

    Hi,

There maybe actors and actresses and directors that are known in the history of film, but I am not sure that any of them have had a bigger and better effect on what film did and has become since.

The imagination and idea that nothing was impossible to do on the screen, was magnificent and got all of us scared and enjoyed some of the best films ever made visually. AND, almost all of them had Bernard Herrman music, that must have helped him, or vice versa. I think the cartoonish visuality of it all made it easier for Bernard to do something, while also helping Ray suggest something more bombastic and gigantic in the music itself to accompany the character!

For another "inside" view at films, make sure you also look for "Visions of Light" about cinematographers. It is just as good as this, and it is one of the sides of film that we do not understand or actually watch and catch, up to and including some great trickery and fun stuff, courtesy of a few folks! You might even find that some of the best moments in film (or in music!) were not rehearsed or "known". They were ad lib and free form and just "happened".

If there is something/anything that music needs today, it is that ability!

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!
