Thanks.  I just purchased an upgrade to version 3 for $29.  I never use the program, but I can't pass up a bargain! :-)

TruePianos is on sale too. Buying a version of Jamstix that qualifies for the TruePianos discount drops the price of TruePianos to $88.

For those that already have JS, I'd recommend the Jamcussion percussion expansion pack, which is currently on sale for $39. I don't use Jamstix much anymore as a drum machine, but Jamcussion remains my go-to library for tambourines and shakers and such.

Jamstix is amazing! It annoyed me at first because I didn't get the basic principle behind how it thinks (and the manual ain't so great) but once you get it, prepare to be amazed at what it can do.

Jamcussion for $39 bucks - wow. I am so there.

Definitely worth getting Jamstix - I've been very happy with it. Once you set it up so the 'power' knob is responding correctly to your playing, it does an amazing job of putting down a credible drum track. I demonstrated it to a top session drummer friend and he was most impressed. It's so much simpler than faffing around with loops, laboriously trying to put down tracks from a keyboard or pads, or anything like that.

Different animals. Superior Drummer gives you deeper and finer control over how the drums sound, for more realistic results. Jamstix's unique talent is generating drum patterns of its own, sort of an intelligent drum machine. If you had both, you could let Jamstix generate MIDI sequences that Superior could then play back.

Jamstix also works as a straight-up drum sampler, ignoring its robot-sideman capabilities. At the sale price, you could just think of Jamstix as an expansion library for an alternate set of sounds. I've used Jamstix, Superior Drummer and Kontakt all in the same song, in order to have a broader tonal palette to choose from.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, my most-used expansion pack is the Jamcussion percussion library. Multiple tambourine and shaker types, close and far miked, plus the usual suspects: congas, bongos, cowbells (3 kinds), woodblocks, triangles, and a few exotic world instruments.

I had to look and see which other kits I had, since I've not used them in a while. I've got stuff in there I've never used, like the electronic kit. Brush kit, yeh, that's one I've used. And the BonzoPak.

I don't use any of the bundled sounds in Jamstix, so far I've used it to drive Addictive Drums and Battery. I've even gotten it to churn out electro style beats, although I've found the best way to do this is to create your own basic MIDI patten and load it into Jamstix as a style. Jamstix will then work it's magic based on your pattern. It really is amazing.

However now that I have Jamcussion I think I'll find myself making use of the bundled percussion sounds.

What a bummer, it's not letting me access Jamcussion. I installed it successfully from the kit window as instructed, and put the license key file they sent me in the location they instructed (my VST folder). But when I try to access Jamcussion it says my license is not authorized for it.

I'm also a little confused because when I first installed Jamstix I was told to keep my license key in the same place as the Jamstix data (kits, MiniPaks etc) and this is what I did. But these new instructions tell me to place it where my jamstix.dll is. Anyway, I've tried both locations and none result in the unlocking of Jamcussion. Anyone have any ideas? I've emailed support but maybe I'll get a faster answer here

I don't have JS3 (I'd love to upgrade at the discounted price but I'm too poor right now), but in JS1 and JS2 you had to install new kits via the JS UI. On the Kit tab there's a button labeled "INSTALL PAK".

Yeah it installed OK, but I can't access it because it says my license doesn't authorize it. But I'm using the license file that Rayzoon sent me along with my Jamcussion download link.

I am sure I followed the directions given in my email:
The attached file (jamstix3_license.rztlkf) is your license key file. Copy it into your Jamstix plugin folder (where jamstix3.dll is) after installation to activate Jamstix and any expansions you may have purchased. Keep a backup copy of this e-mail and all your downloads in a save place.
I found the license was no longer in the VST directory but relocated to C:\Jamstix3 above the bin and data directories with a few other files (e.g. jamstix3.def, PakInst.exe, the uninstall stuff) . Maybe that is where it goes now.

Yeah they just sent me an email saying that's where I should put it. I forgot there was a C: level Jamstix directory. I guess I must have put a copy in my data directory as a backup. Apparently it used to be stored alongside the .dll but they change it ages ago. All this time later, they're still sending out the wrong instructions in their emails. Bad form Rayzoon! Honestly this software is great and customer support is usually swift and helpful but overall presentation needs some work....

I believe Jamstix 4 is on sale at present for $59. I have always disliked compiling a drum track from midi files so Jamstix, from what I have read, could be a good option. However, I believe there is a learning curve - is there a resource apart from the manual that will teach me? I’ve a Groove 3 sub, but they don’t seem to cover it.

JS3 allows you to just use its brain and a 3rd party program’s sounds if you want. Very clever.
It can also take your audio out as an input and derive a tempo and dynamics map in real time and play along with you.

Hadn’t heard that 4 was out but no money for musicing at this time. Boo hoo!

Thanks Mark. Still trying to decide which pack to get.
I wanted to get XL but also want Jamcussion but it seems more cost effective to go the whole hog and get Studio.
