I read material that boldly stated that eyes do not require "help" and that you can train them to return to what they should be.  In fact, it said that using glasses or contacts actually hurts the process.  I bought into it and, approaching 50 next year, have not needed anything more than reading glasses for those HUGE computer books and then only when I was tired (in fact I've only used them for about two hours total).

I'll try to find some info on this if I still have it.  It's interesting none-the-less and I've been able to avoid wearing glasses even though both of my parents wore them most of their lives.

I've seen that stuff, at least the first part of it.

Being a young geek, I spent way too much time staring at computers and, back then, they were all bad CRT's (remember having to have a screen saver to avoid burn-in?).  I had eye issues because all I was doing was college and work.  Everytime I went outside I couldn't tell 100 yards from 300 yards and everything was too bright.  A trip to the optometrist got me a prescription for tinted windows on my car (now THAT'S another story), but he also told me the "cure" was to start finding ways to focus longer distances.  It took a while and, from then on, I made it a habit to have offices with views or at least go outside and look into the distance more.  I also have some glasses that are mostly black, but with pin-holes in them that supposedly help strengthen the eyes.

All of that said, I think just knowing it was possible made the biggest difference.

(And I did find two of the programs but, since they're all paid for I can't post 'em!  One is called the "Program For Better Vision" and the other is called "Vision Without Glasses." )

Yep, I've used bilberry extract for years.

When I was 47 I started the year with 20/20 vision. In the spring, within three months my vision fritzed out. I went from holding a book on my stomach, to my lap, finally that quickly, I could not read holding a book at arms length. I got bifocals. I changed to progressives when they came out. The Dr. Warned me that some people have a hard time adjusting to unlined bifocals so I decided I was going to like them... so it was never an issue. The only glasses I have returned were Transitions lens'. I absolutely HATED them. I hate sunglasses in general, well mirrored sunglasses come in handy sometimes but I like things bright. Life is hard enough without dimming the light, IMO.

I cannot read small print anymore.
This was a pain when cooking.
The print on the packages is too small.
So now I learned by head that I have to boil the rice 8 minutes and the pasta 10-12 minutes.

I had my eyes measured.
They said, your far-seeing is good but your close-seeing is terrible.
You need € 1200 multifocal glasses or you need reading glasses.
I said: "Do you have reading glasses i can try now?"

I tried it and it was terrible.
You can read but you cannot see anything else.
I can still read the newspaper without glasses.
Postpone glasses as long as you can

I have been postponing wearing glasses for a few years, used a magnifying glass for small print
 
Just got myself two pair of them(+1) for the enormous amount of €5/piece   They do work fine.

And I can read the numbers on the mixer again

And you know how many minutes you should boil the rice??

You guys is lucky...I have Astigmatiz as well as easily detachable retinae (as have had them blow out before)
