Oooh... I didn't notice this until I checked the new Reaktor pages. They have submitted selections from user library submissions and one of mine is in it:

https://soundcloud.com/nativeinstruments/sets/komplete-reaktor-user-library

Mine is the MF Auralis entry - it's a short extract from my submission.

Probably one of the best pieces of audio software I own, it's a vast and daunting beast. I really wish I had the time to sit down and learn how to build synths in it from scratch, but the manual ain't that good and very few beginner tutorials are available. But even if you only get as far as leaning how to wire existing synths and effects together, it's worth it for the included instrument alone, and then you have access to literally thousands of synths, sequencers, sample editors, drum machines and effects in the Reaktor User Library.

But that manual...gah, it's at least a couple of versions out of date so very frustrating to read.

Hey sharke, this sounds like a great project for some cold winter nights.  Or hot summer nights like the ones we have in Las Vegas.  Thanks for the heads up on the manual.  I always wanted to buy this program.  This compares to Finale for $99 last year.  Great buys for both programs.

A good set of Reaktor tutorial may be found here:

http://www.nireaktor.com/category/reaktor-tutorials/

Regarding the manuals. In version 5.6 there were many changes and some new versions came out which are much better than the originals. However, these have become 'frozen' at 5.6 and you need to read the addenda for 5.7, 5.8 and 5.9 to keep up-to-date.

There were many changes to snapshots (Presets) and Sample Map handling among other things.

The Reaktor Community forums are very helpful, much like these Cakewalk forums in spirit (and not confrontational like, say, KVR).

Reaktor is the tool that keeps giving via the user library.  I've gone almost entirely reaktor for effects lately - Telray-echoverbrato, Dreamverb, L3V3LL3R-X3.  Nanowave never ceases to enchant my ears.  Reaktor's only fault is too many choices whether you just raid the user library or roll your own.

What's everyone's favorite ensemble? I think my favorite two at the minute are:

Resochord. You feed it audio and MIDI and the audio will resonate 6 virtual strings, the pitch of which is determined by the MIDI (you can also define chords within the ensemble but I find this less versatile). You can shape the sound of the resonators (envelope following, color, feedback, filters etc) and it just sounds AWESOME when you apply it to drums or percussion. I've seen other versions of this kind of thing but to my ears the one in Reaktor is the best. I've gotten some truly lovely sounds with this, including a beautifully out of control sustained guitar type sound. I've fed it drums, vocals, even low frequency noise, and gotten some incredible results. Hard to control sometimes but once you wrap your head around it it's a superb instrument.

Eccentrix. You can find this in the Reaktor user library. It's a really unique sounding FM synth and you can get some awesome sounds out of it. Sounds very close to a hardware synth.

Also worth checking out from the user library is a violin simulator called Serenade. It has a virtual bow that you can assign to a controller and it sounds very real, a spectacular piece of Reaktor programming.

I got an email from NI with a link to a redesigned Reaktor User Library section...just a heads up.

I really like working with the Spiral sequencer in Reaktor. Lot's of cool stuff there.

Thanks for the tutorials link arachnaut. Looks like a good site!

While not free, Groove3 offers a Beginner/Intermediate Reaktor training course with over 5 hours of video across 37 chapters which I found very helpful.

Hope this helps someone,

Favorites in the U/L? That's a tough one.

I've been using Reaktor since 2005 and I am a frequent contributor to the Reaktor forums. I've uploaded 43 entries to the U/L, some of which have made it into the top 100 list. I am also a Reaktor Beta tester and I know most of the people in that group - at least casually.

Before I list my favorites, I'd like to point out that my musical taste is best called 'eccentric'. I'm not fond of metrical beats, repetition, harmony or tunes that are easy to whistle. So you won't find percussion sequencers or simple synths in this list.

My personal favorites among my own entries are these few (most require significant CPU resources):

MF Auralis - ambient generator
http://www.native-instruments.com/en/community/reaktor-user-library/entry/show/6757/

MF Auralis + rachToys - the above with auto-glitchment
http://www.native-instruments.com/en/community/reaktor-user-library/entry/show/7701/

OMega - a fully stereo synth with easy-to-change parts - this includes many pieces from the U/L
http://www.native-instruments.com/en/community/reaktor-user-library/entry/show/6587/

AutoDrummer - generative percussion mash-up
http://www.native-instruments.com/en/community/reaktor-user-library/entry/show/6553/

Tuned Dispersion - dispersion effect
http://www.native-instrum...brary/entry/show/5999/

Among other U/L entries I would first search for the entries by Rick Scott (under the name 'rachMiel'). He has made many automata (generative sound toys). Chet Singer has made many lovely physical modeled instruments, Herwig Krass has a monster modular set. Colin Brown has some great 'bucket brigade' effects

Now for specifics:

If you want to learn about Reaktor you could download a series called 'the rb macros'. rb = Reaktor Builders.
I worked as an editor on this project. A bunch of Reaktor Builders got together and selected various pieces from the User Library and put them together in various packages.

The list is here (it is 'under development', but semi-officially we abandoned it a few years ago). It was a lot of work.

Woweeee.  I installed Reaktor 5 yesterday and am still sorting out the free user library.  The $99. offer expires tomorrow, so anyone that doesn't want to pay $400 full price needs to jump today.

I've tried to purchase Reaktor this morning for the $99, gave my cc info etc., but it won't place the order. I contacted NI by email and got "Due to the high amount of incoming requests, we are not able to answer all requests on time. Please be patient for some days".

Looks like it ain't gonna happen... Too bad since I was going to eventually purchase the Kontact Ultimate and could have used Reaktor to get a lower price.

I would keep trying to submit the order. I imagine they are getting swamped. This has happened several times in the past when there was a sale.

I guess the date is Berlin time - but it's still May 27 there.

I don't think you will regret the purchase.

Arachnaut, if you don't mind, I will give you a shout if I get stuck.  And thanks for all the above help.

It would be better to post questions and comments on the NI Reaktor forums.
I'm fairly actively involved over there.

Not sure what's happening with your order, WallyG. You may want to try again. I just ordered Reaktor on NI's site without any issues or delays. And 15 minutes later my serial number showed up in my inbox.

Maybe try a different cc? I don't know your location, but I know some cc's restrict transactions outside your country. Just a thought.

I talked to Customer Support in LA and they said they had problems with customers who are using I.E. to place the order. I used another browser (I.E. works for everything else!) and I was able to complete the transaction.

Good to hear you got it resolved, Walt. Now it's off to Groove3 to get my head around this.

The Groove3 course is great for learning the basics of using Reaktor, loading synths, using snapshots etc, but be aware that it doesn't really touch upon building synths in any detail. I guess that would be a whole new course in itself.
