RealGuitar and Guitar Hero... useful or gimmick?

Is there anyone here who actually uses a Guitar Hero controller with MusicLab's guitar plugins? I can't really find out if it REALLY works very well or if it's just a gimmick...

Sonar 8.5 PE, Edirol FA-66, Behringer C-1. All instruments in my songs are VSTi's.

I bought in on the guitar hero controller to use with the Real Guitar series. It really is cool at first but soon becomes bothersome due to the controller being just a toy.

It does work but I find the usefulness limited and the controller can be frustrating. To my knowledge they are no longer making the controller so if something breaks you're on your own.

In most cases, it does make strumming/picking sound more realistic/easier than trying to play the same thing on a keyboard. It was/is a great first step for Real Guitar but they need to come up with a more robust/accurate controller.

    Kind regards,

Right, that's exactly what I was afraid of... Thanks for the reply, I think I will pass on version 3. (I own version 2 of all their plugins and this controller option was the only reason why I was thinking about upgrading. Now I can spend some 150 euro's on something more useful. Or save it... )
