Reality Check

Nothing important, but happy birthday to some warrior saint here about to reach 70 years old. Forgot who you are, but only about 4 years behind you. As long as the dream is alive, all is ageless.

Idle curiosity, about how we deal with the new latest and greatest in the passage of time beyond the hard on excitement of the moment. One example, and a really good software.

MidiGuitar from JamOrigin.

Old thread hailed this as critical as the second coming of Allah. Slobbering excitement, me included.

Visionary vst for sure, but I seem to have let this pass into the hoarding pile. Not using it much, as good as it is.

Just curious if Midi Guitar still causes the stars to tremble and if the original fervor has followed forward into the here and now.

5 years to go to hit that milestone.  Got my Medicare card, though. It is a conversation piece right now. As I've said before, getting older is inevitable, but immaturity can last forever...

Funny how in the American culture you go thru certain milestones past the excitement of getting to your 21st birthday. The ability to go into a liquor store for a legal purchase.

There was the first time I wasn't carded for buying beer. Then more and more times til nobody asks to see your drivers license any more. I used to buy beer at a Safeway store because there was a girl there who carded me every time.

Then, way before your actual age, you start getting AARP ads in the mail. Makes you stop and think briefly.

I still remember the first time in a Starbucks when the lady asked me if I was old enough for a senior discount. Made me stop and think longer. Went into a restroom and looked in a mirror...Wondered if it was her eyesight or mine that was bad.

I found for me, once I hit 60, it all came with a bit of humor. AARP mailings, coupons for adult diapers and denture paste. Mailings for life insurance even for old people with no medical exam. Got the bird cage covered with reverse mortgage ads.

Good I had a sense of humor, because the crowning achievement is when you start getting prepaid cremation offers. Pay now, die later.

Only downside, or one of the downsides is that the more you go through time, the faster time passes. Pink Floyd had something to say about this.

Best to all the young and old out there,

John

Kenny,

Taking this opinion from an excellent guitarist, credible thumbs up. By the way, very smooth tele sounds. Nice jazz riffs. Organ sounds only remotely like a guitar, and this is hard to do. Nice job.

Yup , if your single and you got lots of bucks , you can always Date younger women so you can feel the rush of what it feels like to be young again ..

Oh well , at least I got the  single part down .

Well, it's time for me to go and take all my loose change over to the supermarket to buy a box of Prunes .

You're welcome Kenny, just calling it like I hear it. Was wondering what gear you were using on the the earlier tele tones in the clip.

About aging, prunes a good idea if needed, and wanted to share some geriatric perspectives with all you guys, for what use it may be worth, and at the risk of driving the thread off into the left field. Other helpful hints any may have would benefit. Could say this is about software because if we are deteriorated too far, can't use the software.

Getting old ain't for wimps, and either you die young or go thru the process. No one reading this will escape. So it's less hoping we live forever and more about trying to manage a graceful exit. You young dudes will be there in the blink of an eye, so maybe something here you can file away for the future.

In the social sphere, trying to get some level of sustainable economic coverage is important, meaning the likes of food, clothing, medical and shelter. Chaos in these realms can destabilize everything else when your working life is done. Means plan ahead if possible to secure the physical base.

If these elements are in place, then to work on going out with joy even if the physical body is torn up after decades of wear and tear.

Have been in the healthcare field for awhile now and have seen trends worthy of mention.

First trend is like said, all alive will die, but we can do things to make the descent more or less miseable.

Could go on about diet, but we are killing ourselves with our forks. Intake as fresh and vegetarian as possible. Right amount, quality versus quantity.

Periodic fasting to clean out toxins.

A couple certain killers, maybe 3 certain killers.

Overweight. Slim is better for so many reasons, and the medical norm is too heavy.

Immobility. Stop moving in ancient times and something ate you and took you out of the gene pool. Again, many resons rooted in our physiology that demand physical activity.

Inflexibility is a killer. Over time we turn into biological cement causing every kind of problem. Aerobic movement is critical but does not address invading inflexibility.

No offense intended, but get yourself involved in a good yoga program to return some semblance of flexibiity to the body.

Mental struggle, as in continually learning things. Good news I feel is that most here are artistically and technically involved in that aspect.

Spiritual life at the core. Creator, no matter what you call Her or what saviour you cling to. Seeking communion with the core, the common thread, Source. Activities in daily life that seek to serve the animate and inanimate environment, actions that surrender our personal ego for the sake of something greater. Penance taken on cheerfully for the service of others. Prayer, meditation, introspection, as locally prescribed.

Just my 2 cents.

John

BTW , I enjoyed your post and thoughts on staying young

As for reality checks, I just realize I have over 200 plugins. Heck, when I saw some posts a year ago of people talking about their 200+ plugins, I felt pity. Now I don't. At least I think I don't.

This forum sure is one of a kind. I stumbled upon it because of a certain tone, a certain atmosphere that attracted me. Now I know why. It's the "old geezer" smell that lured me in. Like an Old Spice commercial. Nice.
