Really, insert soft synth still inserts wrong soft synth?
After all this time, inserting a soft synth still inserts the wrong soft synth in SX1? Yes, I have had some success with the synth rack but why can't the Insert from the main menu insert the correct synth? This is completely repeatable until it becomes a royal pain in the ass. I have the latest update including the expanded version but this makes it too frustrating to experiment with different sounds for any MIDI data based song. Sorry, just venting. I'm sure many users have no problem with this but this bug has been brought up quite a while ago and still I am experiencing it. X2? I doubt it.

I use the synth rack all the time. With the latest patches we now have a replace synth function that might be very useful for you. It works quite well too. I can't recall if it was in the Expanded or in the D patch. But it is neat and I recommend it.

Very strange behaviour! =/ I always use the synth rack, but I tried inserting from the menu just now and had no problems with this. I tried several different instruments too. Do you have this problem with all softsynths or is it just one or a few? Cuz if it's just a few, maybe reinstalling the intruments will help..? You may already have sent a problem report, but if you haven't: http://www.cakewalk.com/s...act/problemreport.aspx

Yes, the Browser usually works fine for inserting soft synths (though not always) but that does not mean the Insert Soft Synth menu should not work. I'll have to admit that I had to bring up the Help file to figure out how to bring up the Browser since I do not use Sonar as much as I used to since 8.5. Oh the good ole days.

Loptec, my latest attempt was Cakewalk's own Dimension Pro which brought up one or five different soft synths. The Synth Rack Browser inserted just fine a few moments ago. But the Insert menu still inserts an erroneous synth almost every single time. This has been reported numerous times but thanks for the link.

I used to see this happening all the time - in 8.5 - but not once in X1.

Bristol, I am glad your experiences in X1 are better than 8.5. I too very much like X1 with a few exceptions. Thanks Loptec, the Browser has been working fine since my earlier post. No excuses for the Insert issue though. EDIT: It is good to see that my iPad/Safari posts format much better on these wore out forums than a PC/Firefox.

It happens here, too (X1-exp). It is not "reproducible" in the manner required by the cakewalk problem reporter. Save and close the project, then open it and it doesn't happen any more.

That's a strange one- I always use the "Instert Synth" menu and have never seen it. On the other hand I've seen some strange bugs that other people never seem to encounter. Shows how hard it is to write software that runs on various combinations of computer hardware, operating system, 3rd party plugs, audio hardware, and interfaces.

Lately, I've also been seeing this occasionally. If I do a VST scan that seems to fix it. I haven't figured out what makes it happen. I have X1 set to scan on startup.

I've never had that problem and I use Insert-Softsynth and Browser often. Are you perhaps overclocking your CPU? You may also have some corruption on your hard drive. You should probably run a CHKDSK.
