Reamping

Hi all,

I was about to buy the Radial X-amp and then saw John Cuniberti's website where the reamp box is available.  Is there really any significant difference between these boxes? The prices are about the same.  The radial is powered and the Cuniberti box is passive.  Any thought or advice?

I have been using the Radial X-Amp for years...flawless!

I preffer active (powered) boxes to passive ones.  Everyone said the Radial JDI (passive) was a great DI box, so I got one and it was good.  Later, I got the Radial J-48 (active) DI...It blows the JDI away!  Active usually seems to sound more clean, crisp and lively to me.

    Good luck!

The J-48 has a better preamp in it than a lot or boxes sold as "pre-amps".

Radial's website has a some good explanations of the benefits of good power supply.

    Hi JS1000

    Good choice on the X-Amp.

Also...I noticed the old J-48 vs JDI debate...lol

I have a JDI. I'm intending shelling out for an active at some point. For this, I had my eye on a Countryman Type 85.

Do any of you have opinions on the J-48 vs Countryman Type 85 debate?

You can drive a truck over the Countryman.

Go read about the Radial JDV before you buy the Countryman.

If you understand what's going on with the JDV some of the details of the J48 may seem attractive.

I have no experience with the countryman.  The J-48 however is awesome.  Besides the excellent argument Radial makes for the higher voltage rails, the drag control is what sold me.  You can adjust the impedence of the input to suit different pickups and it really helps to get a guitar's sweet spot.

The countryman were the best thing available back in the 1980's and they matched the piezo pickups of the acoustic guitar way better than the older passive designs. I've used many of them.

The Radial stuff is IMO a step forward in choices and capability.

Hey...I made a big mistake.  I've been talking about the J-48...I don't have a J-48, I have a JDV.  It's the one with all the bells and whistles, the drag control, multiple inputs and outputs...and cost me about $400.  Sorry for the confusion.
