From the vids I've watched Reaper is really deep.

I find the UI kind of funky though. Not my cuppa but if I had to I'm sure I could get into it.

The default UI is unusable for me.  Fortunately, the theme support is top notch and there are some very generous folks that have made great themes for Reaper.  Add your own custom toolbar and it gets pretty slick.  This is the way mine looks:

How so?  I don't find it much different than other DAWs.  Is that what that theme looks like?  It almost looks like a video editor.

Control arrangement/overall layout/color and contrast.  The default makes me search for things.  Video editor?  I don't get that.  Here's just the mixer for a better view

Yea I purchased reaper some time ago, but never got into it. It's so different from Sonar, I just haven't spent the time to learn how to use it. I do like the "portable" version as I like things that don't fiddle with the registry, so I update it periodically just so I have the latest, but rarely use it for anything.

At this point the only way I could imagine spending the time to get into it would be if something happened to Sonar. Like they went out of business or sold it and caused problems.

With lifetime updates in Sonar, as long as they are making a good product, I'll be using it. I would rather spend the time working on songs and my craft instead of learning a new DAW.

That's part of the appeal. It's ALSO a video editor. Not as slick as something like Vegas, but definitely well functioning.

A deep chesty bawl echoes from rimrock to rimrock, rolls down the mountain, and fades into the far blackness of the night. It is an outburst of wild defiant sorrow, and of contempt for all the adversities of the world. - Aldo Leopold
