Reason and x1 Rewire_Good news and strange news and some!
Okay First off after a long time i have worked out how to have more than one drum map for reason drum devices, Kong/Redrum/Dr Octo Rex,Its quite akward to setup in a sense of you must add your drum devices to reason rack before anything else where possible, otherwise you will not get the drum map connected with the reason drum devices, every effect and rack device including master takes up the available midi Channels, hence to get these to show up in the drum maps, they are best getting them in the chain/reason rack as soon as possible, anyhow happy days, just a pity if reason rack ext. fetch out new drum devices, you will have to start from scratch to include these with drum map rewire, Yes you can build it as you go, but i like to get a template so it saves the hours of tediousness.
Just finnishing off a template for reason using X1 track view for midi into reason 6 and still using the reason channel mixes with seperate subs for each Drum part per reason drum device, so its more for enhancing reason so you have better midi editing function and overall nicer visual arrangment (Fit midi etc), then a second setup with midi into reason and all audio channels per device back into X1 For a Sonar setup, but all will have drummaps, I will get these templates and some info posted up next week sometime,i have spent years on and off trying to figure out multiple drum maps for rewire, and it was all down to other stuff in the Reason racks hogging the 16 available midi channels, so i could not see the wanted reason drum devices in the drum map setup.
For Drum maps always best to setup first in a bare reason rack excluding master effects too,As i mentioned before it may be akward to later add new reason drum devices or if you decide a second later down the line if you have 16 devices already in reason rack, then it will be impossible to add more drum maps for new reason drum devices , although again all this depends on how you decide to roll with your setup, but i have at last found out how to do all this.
My only concearn now (The strange news _Putting to one side the major Grapics issues i get)
Is now i have reason rewired, i add my midi parts to X1, I start play, it skips the first few beat of the bar, it will play through a whole piece their after, but if i loop as you need to, every second pass of the loop the midi/sound either skips the whole pass and so on in a cycle, does anybody know of this issue, and could it maybe to do with a setup preference in the midi section etc, has anybody messed with such setting to try and solve this problem, just so i can rule out trying myself and presume its a bug, or is it a delay compensation issue or soundcard driver issue.
Quite a lot going on for me, and here is another thing i wish to solve, At the moment i am using rewire as metioned, but i am more so still mixing in reason, so i still have the effects bussing, and reason automation as their is no midi control within X1 for reason devices (Studio One have this sussed, Hint to Cakewalk when they finally get round to fixing and improving automation, this should also be a major addition).as far as arranging goes, I just use blank clips for the midi/instruments in reason to represent the actual midi in X1, just so i have full visual control, but the last thing i have always wanted to do is feed a mic back from X1 into reason when using rewire, so i can still record into reasons sampler devices, would their be away using a second output of my souncard to feed the mic back into reason.
Ps hope cakewalk read this, and hope they carry on improving sonar automation: Colour coding existing Automation, and automation feedback their after from reason.
For me the best automation systems are Reason/Fruityloops/Studio one each in their own way although very similar, Where you can setup a second dupe track just for automation clips, so much simpler and creative to move clips around this way, then all you need do it add an option in X1 Expanded for dragging and dropping Automaton clips, so all its a matter of then is good lableing and file management on our side to keep organised, even better as with fruity loops automation is universal, so can be be apllied to any parameter, not just from what is was created with, as far as i am aware. at last x1 has just become a little more usable, and to think i only stuck around becuase of the inline/fit midi and drum maps i can not live without ,But I get concearned, about the consistant ignoring of features and improvements that us the users have been crying out for years, still so many simple things letting Sonar down, when it does not have to be this way, but will i still be waiting this time next year that is the question,Its like one big battle now which daw will get all major featues implemented first in a practicle way that works for me, cakewalk really need to get these things sorted this year, maybe bitwig studio will sweep me away so i can take off where ableton abandoned us user for their Finacial gains that do not benifit us genral users with updates/upgrade additions etc. Or will studio one add an inline without that its lost for me, 1 simple thing but its important , multi midi editing is not the same when parts hog the same note ranges.
Anyhow better cut this short now, before i feel need to hog this thread with more major Feature & wishlisting,One thought triggers another lol.
