I remember the late '70's and going into rehab in December '89. I guess I missed 'em. Anybody have a review?

In the 1980s, I was pretty much still listening to 'old' music at home, the same stuff I listened to in the '60s and '70s. In the car and at work, listened to WQDR on the radio (before they went country) and heard a lot of popular music, hair bands and electrodroid bands and power pop bands. I can only recall one album that I bought in the '80s: a Steve Winwood LP, can't recall the name, but Joe Walsh played guitar on it.

The 80's were quite a cluster for me... In the beginning I was a DJ (from '80-'84) having to play pop and disco while, at the same time, I was in a rock cover band. Talk about two different worlds! In the middle of the decade I was going to clubs a lot so that was all the dance music then, later in the decade, I was doing lighting for illegal underground clubs in Los Angeles and got into all of the techno, industrial and trance stuff. Throughout the 80's I'd STILL go to Classical concerts once in a while and even saw a few plays (like Oklahoma and Evita) out in London in '81. I did my best to avoid Country and Rap though. Became a fan of New Wave during this time period too - gee, no wonder I don't have any money left!

OK... so for me the 80's were pretty good... but while I was aware of and listening to many of the 80's rockers, my musical tastes were moving into country. What an amazing decade the 80's were with country music.. Aside from the Marshall Tucker Band and Charlie Daniels, there was also the Outlaws who were all rocking it country style. Then from Nashville came these great acts. Don Williams and Kathy Mattea were singing some incredible songs. The Judds hit the stage and turned it upside down. Dwight Yokum with his Bakersfield style, and Keith Whitley..amazing writer who died too early. George Strait and George Jones, even Willie was still writing music...and making movies. The list of great country music from the 80's goes on, and on.... although I like the music coming out of Nashville today, the country music of the 80's will always have a place in my heart.
