Rebuilding the DAW, Part XXVIXXLCDM - plugins

Ugh. So here's my dilemma: aside from the 64-bit upgrade, I've got plugins...lets take Absynth for example. I own v3 and v4. Reinstalling my thought is "lets keep it lean" and only install v4. Yay!

Except project I've made that use v3 don't seem to take to having v4 only installed. I can swap the synths using the "replace synth" option but I'm not seeing the patch settings hold when I do the switch. 

So, I still need to duplicate in entirety my plugin inventory. 

On top of that, some plugins which are identical are not "taking". DimPro? Yeah oddly some of them don't recognize the identical plugin. I wonder how many sounds I may lose moving forward. 

Any tips out there from folks who have rebuilt?

    You would need to install both and do some transferring slowly but surely.

    No way around this-
