Sorry to hear you're having a problem, theloniouscoltrane. Since most of us have upgraded to X1d without a hitch, perhaps you'd like to post some information and get some help with your "over 100 error messages".

Give us some info. Maybe just quoting a few of your numerous error messages would give a clue.

Remember your earlier post when you didn't know about the "interleave" button? There are people on this forum who unselfishly offer solutions, but they need more than just a rant to work from.

Install was extremely smooth for me. seems like it was smooth for a vast majority of people who read the instructions. maybe you should share the details of your issues. I suspect you may have made the same mistakes as the other people who did not follow instructions or skipped reading them all together

So many error messages may be an indication of a corrupt download or a bad hard drive.

Have you tried re-downloading X1D or have you checked for errors the drive that you downloaded it to and are trying to install it from?

That many errors, my first guess would be that you don't have sufficient Windows permissions. The installer probably cannot write to the registry.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Oh yeah, good point bitflipper makes. I didn't think of that.

Solution in that case is to install from an administrator account. And try running the update as admin, or even turn off UAC.

    EDIT:

Surely you dont need to take ownership of the folder you've installed X1 to!

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I love the smug "Works great here, you should have read instructions!" posts - real classy. Are people really that petty? I am thinking maybe Cakewalk should not deploy any patch that isn't a simple click on an .exe like its been for the past 10+ years. Progress this isn't....

Myself, I think I would have clicked cancel after maybe the first one. Definitely by the third. There's nothing "smug" about suggesting people should read instructions and error messages. Of course something doesn't work after 100 error messages. Jeez.

That said, it is true that the update process could be made a lot simpler. I think Sonar could gain a lot from not requiring people to be as Windows-literate as it does.

wasn't trying to be smug, but when a person makes a hostile post they are not looking for "classy" responses. People are very helpful on this board. His post did not ask for help or do anything other than make a rant. i agree, the upgrade process should be easier, but ranting certainly doesn't help.

This is an area that Studio One really nails. It's pretty under-featured, compared to Sonar, but it is god damn user friendly right down to the nuts and bolts. Seems to me like a bit of work in this area is a really easy win for Sonar. To be fair, this is already happening a bit, with the unified preferences thing.

What the ones that are often cited as another reason that previous versions are better, as if preferences scattered haphazardly around the interface are easier to use.

I personally found it quite strange that X1d wouldn't install over the quickfix. That's the first time an install has been that convoluted. Having said that if the choice is quickfixes and an odd upgrade install or no QFs, I'll take the former.

@the OP. If you ask a question and give some specifics about the messages, I'm sure someone will be able to help.

You've got to admire the patch for carrying on trying to install. After about 75 errors most updates would have had enough.

Sounds like some sort of PC malfunction.

I've never had an upgrade that had that many error messages. With anything.

I'm almost wondering if there was not some kind of virus in his system to begin with....

That's a good point-either that or Hard drive or memory like mentioned before. But I still don't see how you can get to 100 errors.
