Recommend a new motherboard!
Short story...mine died and it's discontinued, ordered a new one from Newegg made by ASUS and it was DOA. That turned me off to ASUS.
So...I need a new motherboard and I'm looking for recommendations. I'd like for it to have firewire and it has to have a 4GB RAM capacity. It has to be compatible with a P4 3.0Ghz w/HT. The socket is 478.
Recommend away!

I had a similar experience, except my Asus mobo wasn't from newegg. Asus' RMA form is almost impossible to get through. From your specs I'd recommend the
865PE Neo2-PFISR
.

I checked Tom's Hardware too, they don't list any sellers for the 865PE Neo2-PFISR, but they also list several similar boards;
the 865PE Neo2_PFS
looks like it might be what you need too.
You could also get a similar board without onboard FW and put in a FW card, which is what I did. Depends how many PCI cards you have to install.

Thanks. It's between this one and a Gigabyte one...
