I've heard good things about your book, in fact it is on my long list of things to get!

Would this be relevant to the studio version of x2 or will it be more based on producer?

I know the basics, I can record my guitar parts and use my midi keyboard but learning the DAW game is a lot of confusing work at times.

I have a friend who is using cubase coming from ableton and he is taking a course (expensive one at that) as he is struggling with it. And his mixes sound pretty damn good.

dangars - if you're recording to get your own ideas expressed sure learning Studio is great.

But if you're already comparing your ear to someone who is whipping up things in another DAW and they are paying for expensive training - if your tastes lean toward that caliber of recording you'd do yourself a great favor early on by upgrading to Sonar X2 Producer. Train on that and you'll be golden.

Scott's book is a welcome reference that covers it all. I learned the most quickly by the many video tutorials available. Many are free on the Cakewalk site, and there are excellent ones in the store. I have them all. The more training, the better you realize what's possible and how to get there fast.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

I am looking at upgrading to producer at some point in the near future at the moment I'm winging it and learning as I go.

I've watched a few of the free videos and have subscribed to Chucks Jones videos as I found the drum tutorial very helpful as I am crud when it comes to programming drums. I can get the beat in my head but reproducing it with the keyboard is another story, I suppose this comes with time and a hell of a lot of patience!

I am eager to learn though!

    Thanks for the suggestions though!

Hi Stuart... yes, the book can be used with all three editions of X2: Essential, Studio, and Producer. There will just be some functions mentioned that will not be available in your edition, but you can still read about them and all other material will pertain to your edition.

    Thanks!

PS. Thanks to Jonathan and Larry for the recommendations!

At the current pricing (14.95 in the Cakewalk UK store.) its a no brainer. I watched some of the Groove 3 stuff too and its very good but on ballence I would go for the SWA.

+1 on SWA's video. I've never seen a more detailed and educational video. It's a lot longer than the Groove 3 one. I have to add I haven't seen the Groove 3 one about Sonar but I did watch another Groove 3 about mixing and that was utterly useless and utterly crap. But well, I suppose you can't judge G3 on just one video... ;) Anyway, FastBikerBoy's vid is the best. Indeed a no brainer. And very complete (more complete than the G3 vid, so I am told.)

Sonar 8.5 PE, Edirol FA-66, Behringer C-1. All instruments in my songs are VSTi's.
