Recommended Driver Mode

So I am setting up my new DAW with my Audient ID14 and figured I would check in.  The search is not working right now, so thought I would just ask. I hope this is not a duplicate of anything.

So for 10 years I have been using ASIO drivers as supposedly they have been the best.  Have things changed?

The options are:

-WDM/KS
-WASAPI Exclusive
-WASAPI Shared
-ASIO
-MME (32 bit shared)

Thank you!!

Aside from MME being an obvious wrong choice, it doesn't really matter. Next time you have a big project that starts to hiccup due to CPU load, try the others and see if they alleviate the dropouts. If they don't, stick with whatever you were using before.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

If you want the ID software that comes with the ID14 I think your going to be forced to use the compliant ASIO driver. For what its worth, the ID software will be worth installing as it has your routing options (for talkback mic, exc).

It actually does matter as anything but ASIO will not report RTL to Sonar properly and you will have timing offset issues. Always use ASIO unless you wish to use two ( or more ) devices to record a band, then you can use WDM or WASAPI but just for the recording. Always use ASIO for overdubs.
