Record MIDI data FROM KONTAKT into a MIDI Track in Sonar X2a

Hi y'all

I am pulling my hair out a bit on this one...

I recorded a few simple MIDI chords in SONAR X2a and routed them to KONTAKT 5

I then mucked around with a random arpeggiator in KONTAKT and generated an awesome sounding pattern

I now want to "record" that pattern as MIDI data into SONAR so that I can manipulate it further - e.g. tweak in the PIANO ROLL VIEW

I have set KONTAKT to "send MIDI to outside world" and have the following options ticked:
- GUI Keyboard
- Script generated CC's
- Script generated notes

I have then inserted a MIDI track in SONAR to receive this data but there is no option to select KONTAKT as the "MIDI Input"

The only options available for "MIDI Input" are my audio interface (which has MIDI ports) or "None"

Having trawled t'internet it feels like I am really close but have missed something to make KONTAKT appear as an INPUT for my MIDI track

Any ideas?

Make sure to check the "Enable MIDI Output" in the SONAR "Insert Soft Synth Options" Dialog or right-click on the synth in the synth rack and enable it there.

IIRC not all arpeggiators output full MIDI data. Hope Kontakt does it for you once you enable MIDI out.

Also, there was once a synth (Kontakt?) for me that although was asble to say Enable MIDI Out I could not record it into a new MIDI Track. I installed a free product called LoopBe1 (at the bottom of the page) and sent output of teh synth to LoopBe1 and the input of the new MIDI track to Loopbe1.

There is also another free product call  loopMIDI that does the same thing.

SCOOK!

You are an absolute super star!

Thank you soooooooooooooooo much

I don't think I would have got that in a long while as I was reading KONTAKT set-up stuff as the reason it wasn't showing in SONAR

@bapu

Thanks for the heads up on this

Fortunately now that I have got it all working I can confirm that KONTAKT 5 does indeed output the arpeggiator scripts - it even has velocity info!

Thanks again for saving me A LOT of frustration!

Glad you got it going. It was fresh on my mind because I recently had a similar situation. There are so many parts to setting this stuff up, it can be a real challenge sometimes.
