Recorded automation sent out MIDI

Hi, I'm trying to setup a MIDI touch fader (vmeter) to control one of the volume tracks, and have automation during playback sent back out via MIDI to control the LEDs on the fader.  It's like a LED version of a motorized fader.

I'm very much a beginner at Sonar.  Is this something that's built in?  Do I need a special plug-in or ACT control setup? Does this type of automation playback only work for recorded envelopes?

When I play back a song, I can see the animated fader moving, but no MIDI is sent back out.  I've got the controller checked as an input and output device in the preferences.

thanks!

Updating in case this helps anyone else in the future.  Looking at this thread, it seems Sonar doesn't like to send MIDI output of automated faders or VST parameters back to the original device.  In other words, you can control the knobs on the screen with your MIDI controller, but when you playback, no MIDI is sent back out.  If the faders were motorized, they wouldn't track the playback.

It looks like several iPad / iPhone apps (touchDAW) have gotten around this by emulating a "mackie control" surface, for which Sonar natively supports sending MIDI back out to the controller.
