Recorded clips missing; immediate dropouts prevent projects from playing

Well this is strange. Some vocals takes I made for a client over the weekend have now vanished.

Equally strange is that none of my projects playback now. When I hit play, I immediately get the dropout message.

Don't know if this is related or not, but when I opened the project to do the vocal recordings this past weekend, the TH1 amp sim plug-in that was on one of the guitar tracks popped up with a message saying I have to be a registered user to use this plug-in. I couldn't resolve that quickly, and the client was waiting, so I inserted another instance of TH1, set it to the same settings and turned off the instance of the plug-in that was giving me the error. All seemed to be going well, and all takes were showing up as recorded.

When I went back in today to work on them, the vocal takes were missing. And now nothing will playback. I've tried other projects, and none will playback.

I have changed nothing in my settings since recording successfully over the weekend, so I don't know what's going on. Any ideas?

what are you using for a soundcard?
I would start by preferences/drivers, you should be using your ASIO as your main driver if its a professional usb soundcard, exc.
if your using your onboard computers sound card then this is typical and reks of an upgrade to a better soundcard.
also check you preferences/ playback and recording: make sure your latency slider hasn't been moved, this will control a lot with your drop out problems.

Echo Gina 3G. They don't have updated drivers yet for Windows 8, and things have been quirky, but nothing like this has happened yet. I can't figure out why it would just suddenly stop playing back and while recorded clips would just disappear.
