Recording 16 tracks simultaneously

I’m trying to reconfigure my system to record 16 tracks at once but I’m having trouble finding an interface to meet that challenge. What would be the best way to do this? Should I go with 2 soundcards like the delta 1010 or use one of those new firewire mixers like the Mackie onyx that allows you to send so many tracks at once through a fw connections.

If you need preamps too, then two MOTU 896HD's would do it. And if you don't need preamps, then one MOTU 24i/o would let you record 24 inputs at once.

Personally, I would stay away from using 2 seperate interfaces if possible, but thats just me. There are alot of options for going to 16 tracks and beyond. I chose the Motu 2408mk3 because of its 3 banks of adat in/out and 8 analog trs inputs for a total of 24 inputs at any one time. I cant comment on the mackie onyx, but I know there was a huge thread here on the Alesis multimix 16 which I would assume has similar funtionability.

Windows 7 Pro 64bit, Core i7 920, Asus p6td deluxe, Sonar X1c PE, Motu 2408 mk3, Apogee Mini DAC, 3x UAD-1, Digimax FS, Motu Microlite, MCU, Tranzport, Nocturn. And more...

Yes, the MOTU 2408Mk3 is also a great choice. You can then just add a couple of 8-channel mic preamps, like the Motu 8-Pre, or Presonus Digimax-LT, or Focusrite Octopre, and you have your inputs.
