Recording Click Track (Metronome)

Is there a way to record the AUDIO version of the metronome click track to a track?

Not yet. At least not easily. There is a feature that is currently being developed that will allow this (track to track routing). No official word on exactly when it will be available though.

My personal workaround when I need a "click" track outside of the internal metronome is to just do it using MIDI and a synth (using a drum synth but anything with some percussive sound will do).

Just put a MIDI note at every beat (or at whatever interval is needed for you needs for wierd stuff like compound sigs or whatever) for the first bar of the project. Then convert the resulting MIDI clip into a MIDI Groove Clip (which will cause it to repeat when dragged out) and drag it out for as long as needed.

You can then Freeze or bounce the track if you want it as an audio clip.

The added bonus with this is you can actually add far more nuance to the "click" track if you want by way of intricate "pulse" setups (like using a different hit to accent an offbeat or groove changes or accents in the song). That is of course only if you want to get super fancy but most musicians not used to tracking to a click might find it useful (like if you are trying to get another bandmate to record overdubs or something... it can give them cues and the groove).

Cheers.

Not really.  This is asked from time to time, but there are no announced plans to implement this in the future that I'm aware of.

To get around this, I throw a TTS-1 track in and create a bar or two MIDI clip with the sounds I want.  Groove clip it and stretch it out for the length I need.  A quick freeze and I have an audio click track.

This is really super quick and offers the ultimate in flexibility.  You can even save your clips in the media library for re-use.

It was confirmed by a Baker that this will indeed be possible with the new track to track routing. It was however a casual post and they were more using it as an example of what it all meant. Sorry I don't have the actual post bookmarked but yeah... this should be possible soon... supposedly.

I may of course have either misunderstood (quite possible) or they were talking about MAYBE something that MIGHT be possible with T2T routing. In this scenario the Metronome bus would have to get routed back to an audio track (which has NOT been discussed in depth... only track to track) but maybe tracks will now be able to take input from the metronome.

Ideally of course though tracks would be able to take and record input from busses.

...

meh... don't mind me. I'm just having a braingasm thinkiing about it/trying to figure it out.

Cheers.

I remember some loose talk about such.  However, if I need a click track TODAY ...

Defs. You pretty much offered the same advice I did except not as crazy, long winded and blathery... lol.

Beepster, BobF, thank you both for responding. At least I can remove the three question marks that were floating over my head around this. MIDI it is, until the "track to track routing" manifests. And depending on what that will look like, MIDI might still be easier.

Gratitude!

Sorry Beep.  Your answer wasn't there when I started typing ... I wouldn't have bothered repeating what you had to say.

At least we have a confirmation ... of sorts
