Recording Droputs

I can record midi perfectly fine. I can use both of my keyboards. But, when I try to record with my microphone it acts as if it was recording, then less than a second later it stops and at the bottom of the screen it says dropout. I can record on windows sound recorder. I'm using a dell xps- 3 weeks old- with 320 gb hard drive, 3 gb of ram, a casio keyboard, a m-audio key rig 49, and a samson usb mike. When I try to check the levels, nothing comes up. Can anyone help me?

    samson usb mike

therin lies your problem - the usb mike is a soundcard (in effect) and sonar just doesn't like them. search the forum for 'usb mike' and you'll get the picture. pretty much the only solution is to sell that mike and buy the samson co1 (non usb). sorry.
maybe you could try mme driver mode for now? it'll give bad latency but might work. another option would be to download audacity (it's free) from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ , which is a very useful app to have anyway, see if you can record in that (it's better than windoze sound recorder) and import those files to sonar. best i can come up with...

USB mics just dont do it. Not yet atleast, they have no decent drivers now and thats your problem. Just do it the right way and get a mic and a nice pre-amp/soundcard/interface and youll be rocking till midnight and rolling till the morning

pretty much any mic will work with sonar except USB mics. and they will work also, sometimes if you use MME driver mode. but you may still have problems with them because you still have two devices that need a clock on one of them has to be the master, so they might not sync.

    here are some mic recommendations:
