Recording MIDI automation directly to the Track Pane instead of the Piano Roll

Hello,

what i'm trying to achieve here is to record modwheel data to the Track Pane automation lane instead of the Piano Roll while playing on my keyboard. According to the manual you can convert MIDI controllers to envelopes (ie from Piano roll to track automation), but that requires an additional step after the actual recording (and i couldn't even manage to do it by following the instructions here: http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation/default.aspx?Doc=SONAR%20X2&Lang=EN&Req=Automation.14.html#1147132)

any thoughts?

Cheers,
Peter

Recording mod wheel (as a second pass) over the top of existing track is always possible. X2 new track lane makes it easier to have separate view of midi and controller data.
