Recording Problem. PLEASE HELP.

Ok. So this is a noob question I'm sure but it has several parts to it. So I'm trying to record guitar onto Sonar 8.5 Studio which I bought.... last Thursday? Anyway I was able to record a couple things, nothing good quality though. It would get partially through the song and then the rest of it would be EXTREMELY distorted, (and I listen to metal, this is beyond any legible sound).

AFTER all of this I go to try to re-record again and now I can't even hear my guitar through my speakers. I'm using a Lexicon Alpha ASIO interface and instead of using headphones I just got some speakers. I'm using a Peavey amp that I just plugged into the interface.

PLEASE HELP. I want to be able to hear my guitar and record with good quality!

    Hello Vengeance,

Does your peavey amp have a direct out?  Is this why you're going directly into the interface?  Do you have active pickups?  Do you have a mic?

I'm thinking you're recording wayy too hot from the amp.  Try turning the amp gain down firstly and check your levels in SONAR.  If you're hitting the red turn it down.  I think it would be better to mic your amp if you can afford to get a mic.  If not, you may need to record clean into SONAR through your Lexicon and apply FX in the box.

It does have a direct out and yes that's why I'm going directly into the interface. I do have a mic and I haven't tried to mic the amp yet. Let me give that a shot and I'll see how it goes.

Thanks for your help so far

It does sound like overload or an impedance mismatch.... I would recommend maybe a DI box for matching impedance...or use a mic from the interface to record the guitar amp speaker. see if useing a mic makes a difference.
