Recording Roland TD12 using MC6

Hi all,

I just wondered if someone could help a complete beginner out please.

I recently bought MC6 to record myself playing my Roland TD12. I must point out that I have no clue how to use this -or any- recording program. I cant seem to get any sound once I've recorded a sample, in fact I don't know if anything has been recorded at all. I'm connecting the Roland module using a Roland UM-ONE usb-midi cable. I open up MC6 and start a new project, MC6 asks me if I want to use the UM-ONE cable and I say yes, I then add a midi track to the project, left click on the midi track and hit record, I play a couple of bars then hit the space bar to stop recording. When I go to play back the recording there is nothing there. Am I doing something wrong?

Please help lol.

Thanks in advance, Andy.

    hi andy,
MIDI is usually difficult for first timers.  first, in the MIDI track (not an audio track) make sure the input is set to the UM-ONE.
then make sure the track is armed, then click on the record button on the transport.

if you want to hear sounds coming from MC while you reord, you need to set up a softsynth.  TTS-1 is alreadty loaded wjith the default project, so you'd just need to set the output of that same MIDI track to TTS-1 (it might be already).

I suggest you open the help files and work thru the tutorials there because there are tutorials which walk you thru step by step exactly how to do this very thing, and they are very helpful.

ask questions if you don't understand!

    Hi Beagle,

I think I done everything apart from arming the track and the TTS-1 thing, don't think I saw that anywhere. I had a quick look at some of the tutorials but it's all just alien at the minute lol. Anyway, I'll have another look at it when I get in from work tomorrow.

Thanks for your help Beagle, much appreciated
