Recording Tempo changes

Hi
I have an old Roland MC-300 hardware sequencer along with umpteen floppies of songs that i have sequenced in it, mainly by step input. My problem is that the floppies are quite old and I want to input all of the music into my lappy.
Using Sonar HS6XL as slave to the roland I can record them with no problems except that I cant get HS to record embeddded Tempo changes. This is no problem with the majority of changes where it jumps from say 80bpm to 160bpm all I do is put tempo change in at appropriate measure in HS6. However I have a few where there are subtle or more gradual Tempo changes and I cant check them in the roland to see exactly what the changes are. so if SH6 was able to record them it would be a great help.

I seem to remember reading on a related post that someone said that Sonar have not implemented this function by design but not absolutely sure as I couldnt find the post again lol.

So if anyone can give me a definitive answer it would be much appreciated. I am working with midi files only, no audio and the MC-300 syncs by Midi clock only and not MTC.

Regards
Ray

AFAIK there is no MIDI control for tempo so I don't think it will record the tempo changes.

    Hi Dave
Thanks for that, it was what I was afraid of lol. Ah well I'll just have to do it all the hard way, although recording it directly into HS6 is prob quicker than trying to convert the Roland floppies to pc format, that is if I was even able to do that.

    Thanks again for that.

convert the Roland floppies to pc format

What format are the MIDI files in?
Floppy disk drives can be had for $30 or less. If the files are MIDI Format 0 or 1, transfer them from the floppy drive to the computer and import them into SONAR.
It's probably harder than that, though.

I am selling my MIM Fender Stratocaster HSS, red and black. PM for more details.

Music Creator 2003, MC Pro 24, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL, SONAR  X3e, CbB, Focusrite Saffire, not enough space.
    Everything is better with pie.

    Hi Greg
Sorry I should have mentioned that in my original post. Unfortunately the Roland uses it's own format which can't be read on a PC, although there's supposed to be a way of doing it.

This link explains a way of doing it but I could never get it to work for me and its probably just as quick and easier to record directly from the MC300 into the PC anyway. SHS6 records the midi input fine, it just doesn't record any Tempo changes.

    Thanks anyway

    Hi

This thread is more or less redundant now as I have only just this afternoon found a method of copying the MC300 files to pc that works.

I came across a user group for the MC300/500 and the necessary files to do it, quite simple and it works. Converts the .SNG files on MC300 to standard midi files which can be read on pc formatted floppies with no problems

Many thanks for the help and advice offered by members.
