Recording Video

Hi all... Here's the scenario. I plan on using Sonar X2 Producer to record an acoustic demo. This is to be a live recording, no over dubbing involved. * AudioBox USB Digital interface. (2 inputs/2 outputs) * Acoustic guitar running direct into one channel * Microphone for Vocal into other channel. * Camcorder recording video Here's the question. Is there a way (that you know of) to split the audio, so that channel 1 (guitar) and channel 2 (mike/voc) have their own dedicated channels, recording into SONAR ? So I can tweak the mix after the fact, on the LIVE recording. ie: Guitar on channel 1 in Sonar, Voc-Ch 2 in Sonar. The plan is to then sync the video with the studio quality audio. This is my 1st attempt, and I'm just trying to get it right the 1st time. Any input is welcome. All the best, Michael Stone

    Most sound interfaces have drivers that let you select the right or left side as mono tracks in addition to the stereo. So it should be easy for you to select either the left or right as the "input" in the "input" drop down selector.

    If you don't have those choices you can look in your Audio options to see if the input choices are listed but not "selected" as active.

    If for some reason that doesn't work you can always record as stereo and split the left and right channels later.

    It's fairly routine.

    You should anticipate that the clocks on the DAW and the camera will drift so every now and then you'll have to slide to a new sync point.

    If you can grab a second camera, you can use "cut aways" as convenient places to get back to sync.

    Pan one input all the way left and the other all the way right. After you import the stereo track to Sonar, bounce it to split mono tracks and you'll have 2 separate mono tracks with one instrument on each.

    Am I missing something obvious?? Can't you just set the input of track one in SONAR to AudioBox input one, and track two recording input two? Like any normal simultaneous recording of two instruments. 

    SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

    Many thanks for the replies. I just wanted to consult the pages to make sure I wasn't wasting time looking at options that were unnecessary. It's so easy to get lost in all of the possibilities, even on a simple process, such as this. Regards, Michael Stone
