Recording Vocal Midi

I am not an instrumentalist and am too lazy to learn to read music properly.  I make musical sounds mainly by ear   That's why I think Mettelus suggests I create Midi tracks simply by humming or singing .  I've just now tried it! First  I record an audio track.  I then copy the track to a Soft-Synth Instrument track and play-back the resulting midi.  It that the proper way to do it or is there a more direct method?

Melodyne can do what you want to do.  If you have Sonar X3 Producer, it  includes Melodyne essentials. Hum your track. Use the Region effects and chose Melodyne.  Fix the pitch.  Bounce to tracks, and then drag the audio track to a midi track, and Melodyne will convert it to midi notes.  You may need to edit in the piano roll.

Thanks S.L.I.P.   I think I noticed that when I copy the audio track to a midi or instrument track the track defaults to Melodyne then  it appears as a MIDI.

Cpkoch, the way you're doing it is the fastest one, as direct as it gets. That particular feature is the only one in X3 that sometimes makes think of upgrading.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
