Recording an audio click track

Hi folks, wondering if anyone can help me with THIS one!!

I'm using Sonar 6 Producer and love it. However, I often need to use my AW16 multitracker to record away from my desktop and then I import the stuff into Sonar, and away we go with the editing. What I really want to do is set up the click track in Sonar, record it as audio, and then export the click track from Sonar into the AW16. I can work out how to use the Metronome in Sonar, but not how to record it as an audio track that I can edit and play around with/export.

So, in short, I need to work out how to record the metronome in Sonar, on a separate 'click' track. Can anyone help?

All guidance much appreciated. Long live Cakewalk!!

Peace

Danny

This has been covered a few times on the site.

But long story short, just set up a midi track of a bass drum or whatever you want (many ways to do this such as the step sequencer). Then bounce it to an audio track, enable it as a groove clip and use to your heart's content. The resultant acidized clip can also be imported to other projects as needed.

You can use any MIDI groove clip and the TTS-1 then bounce to audio or even make a MIDI measure by inserting events.

Here is how to create it the hard way... Insert a MIDI track and go into event view and set now time at 00:00:00 and press Insert. Make the Note F#1 (I think) on channel 10. That should be closed Hi-Hat on a GM synth like the TTS-1. Then select that note and press Insert to make copies (3 more for 4/4 time sig). Edit the time so each one falls on the downbeat. Then edit the velocity of the first one so it's louder then the other three. For example the first one could be 100 and the next three 80. Then select those notes and convert that to a MIDI groove clip and stretch it to the number of measures you need for the entire project.

Insert the TTS-1 and set the output of your MIDI track to it.

Select both the MIDI and TTS-1 track and do bounce to audio track... done ! Now you can remove the TTS-1, and set the MIDI track to Archive and Hide it.

    Was that fun or what...

Oh, and when you export make sure you use a sample and bit level your AW16 can do. You want the same sample rate as your Sonar project.

I'm sure there is an easy way now.. I think you can do a drum editing view with big blocks but I like the event view... it reminds me of the good old days with Cakewalk for DOS... The event view scrolled great back then and when you stopped the screen froze right in place with the event last played centered in the screen.. and it didn't jump to some other position..
