Recording from a Rewire Device in Sonar X1 Expanded

Hi All!

Though I've been using Sonar for many years now, I've never had the opportunity (or necessity) to use a "Rewire" device in a project.
I've checked out a couple of YouTube videos on the subject and they were very helpful.
Unfortunately, I didn't come across one video that explained how to actually "record" the audio that's being sent from the Rewire device into Sonar X1.

I'm working with FL Studio as a Rewire device for the purpose of utilizing it's vocoder (Vocodex).
I'm able to insert the program (FL Studio) into Sonar X1, and set up my Vocodex just fine.
However I cant seem to activate the "record" button in Sonar X1's rewire audio track so I can record the audio!

As I said, I've never used a Rewire device before, so it's not surprising to me that I'm screwing up here.

If someone would be kind enough to set me straight with this Rewire configuration so I can record this very cool vocoder track I'd be more than grateful!!

Just select the length of the Audio you'd like to record in the timeline first.

Sonar doesn't know how long your project is until you tell it.

Therefore it won't record until you do.

I'm not sure you know exactly how "Vocodex" functions in Sonar X1.

I'm not at the Studio right now but I don't see what creating a timeline has to do with the functions of the recording capabilities in an audio track created through a Rewire device.

If I'm mistaken about your experience with  Vocodex, I apologize.

I already have Vocodex completely setup with a carrier (synth) and an audio source (vocal sample) that's 8 bars long.
When I get to the studio I will highlight the Timeline for 8 bars and see if it makes a difference in the funuction of the "record" button on the audio track created when inserting a Rewire device.

    Stranger things have happened.

you'll have to bounce it to track, when you set a reason input on an audio track it disables any recording onto that audio track, and the record button disappears, and like jonbouy sais, high light the length of clip you want to render along the time line

Yes you can bounce it or real-time record it but the actual recorded clip length will need highlighting in either case.

@Harpo no I'm not familiar with Vocodex, I use R6's vocoder, but the pricipal for recording audio via Rewire remains the same.

Highlight the clip length you want to record, hit record or bounce.  I tend to use the record button because sometimes Sonar can add unwanted white space (random blank audio) to the end of the track

    Thanks Jobouy and Chregg!

It definitely pays to keep an open mind!

    Sorry for my initial skepticism!
