Recording microphone into cakewalk

Hi - have my stereomike plugged into the internal soundcard, signal goes through to extenal speakers, but cakewalk won´t recognize it.
In preferences the right soundcard shows, but it does not come up in the dropdown menu of inputs(when track is armed).
My other soundcard(RME)with opt/coax in/outs works.
Must I have an USB interface for Cakewalk ? Had no problem with this under the old Cool Pro.
If you have any tip here - I´ll be glad :)

all best

A nice USB interface will make life good with CakeWalk.

It should be possible to get the internal to work with a mic though. Use the MME  driver and let it run the wave profiler, then select the internal card from the list of available inputs.

It should work..... not the best , but usable to one degree or another.

If you're using the ASIO driver mode with the RME audio interface, no other sound card will work at the same time.
Why not plug the mic into the RME? It is probably a much, much better device than any stock sound card.

    Hi and thanks for recommendations.
I have the MME driver in use and the profiler says it´s ok, but the internal card(VIA HD audio) does not show at inputs anyway.
My RME is quite old, but still good, it has no analog in/out though.
That´s why I´m trying to use the internal card.

I see. What is your operating system?
Which Music Creator program are you using?
Is the stock sound card selected under Options>Audio>Drivers and Recording Timing Master?
Is the mic input selected in the computer's sound card preferences?

Okay. Press the P (Preferences) button on the computer keyboard.
What is listed for Recording Device?
What is selected for Recording Device?

VIA HD AUDIO is listed and selected under prefs.
It does not show under inputs though.
I tried with the WDM/KS driver and then the card is listed at inputs, but when selected Creator says it´s not the right audio format/beeing used by other pgm.
    That´s how far I got :(
