No actually? Many singers will tell you? A little wisky will help the pipes? Now too much will obviously have the opposite effect? But I agree with "many singers..." A little will definately help the vocal performance... I don't know why? But it does. For me, Scotch works best... But for others? Maybe it's Bourbon? Or Irish wiskey? Or whatever... But I swear, it's many singers, not just me (and I'm a singer)

I find that a bit of blackberry brandy works well.  It coats the pipes nicely while the alcohol loosens up my inhibitions.  When it comes to singing, I need as much help as possible.

Wow.  What a great thread!  So many good little tid bits.
Nothing for me to add as it's been said better by others....except :
I do think it's easy to underestimate the power of the vibe as opposed to a perfectly pitched take.  I've sung one, maybe two really well pitched and right on but the take with the passion FAR outweighed it....(and this is not always the case.)
I have about 20 minute windows once every week or two to sing while the house is quiet.  I lay down as many takes as possible....just keep re singing song...till the noise returns...then i find the best track and listen to it for a few days.   If it grows on me and i actually like it i'll tweak and seal it...if it bugs me i'll wait for another 20 minute window and squeeze out 4 more takes.
and yes, red wine is basic outboard gear.
How's that for dysfunctional???

Someone else told me it was good to coat the pipes? So I tried a brandy enema? Turns out those pipes have absolutely no effect, coated or not :-(
