Recordings cut off or misisng / MOTU Ultralite Hybrid

Hi guys,

I've recently installed a MOTU ultralite hybrid.

Everything seemed fine until I started recording a few tracks.

It's the weirdes porblem I've come accross:

sometimes (very often , I'd say one recording in 2 or 3), I'm recording, I see the wave files being created on the screen as I play along, sonar clearly shows the recording is in progress, and when I press stop, either a tiny portion of the recording is displayed, or not at all.

I've obviously tried stretching the file to see if it was a display issue, but no, the recording is simply missing in large chunks.

Sometimes it records fine, and sometimes I get just "bits" of the recorded performance.

I have no idea what I need to do.

I tried playing around with a few setting in the audio option panel, but no results.

My setup:
windows 7, 64
Sonar 8.5.3
Motu ultralite Hybrid (using firewire port)

I have posted below pictures of my audio options (apologies for poor quality, my screen grabber plugin was not working and I just took pictures.)

I'd be very grateful if someone could help me, as this problem is driving me crazy.

Cheers,

Vinny

Cheers,

Vinny

    Just to clarify:

I don't get "audio drop outs", where for instance on a 1 minute recording, there would be some empty bits.

What I get is: on a 1 minute recording, the file rendered may be 10 seconds on the recording, although while I was playing, the wave form was building all the way through on my screen.

as soon as I press stop, I may gaet: the full recording, no recording at all, only a small chnunk of the recording.

    Hope this makes it clearer.

    Cheers,

    Vinny

    Hi Vinny,

Did you ever get this sorted?

I'm currently looking at one of these although my setup will be slightly different, most notably XP 32bit.

Did you try increasing all the buffers?
How about unticking 'Use MMCSS (Windows Vista)'?  I doubt this has anything to do with it, it says vista so it must be bad :-)
How about selecting all the I/O drivers?
Are you using the CueMix software in conjunction with Sonar or bypassing it?

    Sorry I'm late.

I've had this as well since I recently bought a Tascam 1800.

A couple of times when I've opened a recently recorded project it will load, say, a minute of audio and then stop abruptly.

I had to delete all the clips and then re-build it by importing the audio clips out of the audio folder. Once I've rebuilt it and saved the project file under a different name, then when I open it again all the audio is there OK.

It's a pain when it happens, but give it a go, I suspect the complete audio tracks are saved.

    Hi Vinski,

I got it sorted, but can't remember how.

    it hasn't happened again.

    All good now.

Soundcard if great. works perfect, sounds very good.

    No, I don't use cuemix.

I don't see the need, enough computer power for my projects and no latency issues, so I keep it as it is.

    Cheers,

    Vinny

I also have the MOTU Ultralite , using the firewire connection, don't use cuemix.  but I've never had this problem.  might could have been a driver problem - I'm running the latest drivers; ver 4.04.4925

OP has issue solved, but anyone else with this issue.. Have you run the dpclat meter? You might have stuff going on in the background that makes your audio engine cut out like that.
