Red Rooster SONG - New Updated Version

I'm working on this song for a friend who I grew up with back in my school days . Back in the early eighties he went his way and I went my way and thirty years later we finally made contact with each other through facebook . His sister happen to see me on facebook and ask if I was so and so and I replied back with yes you have the right person and that's how we ended up talking to each other on the phone .
Anyway I created this song for him , it all started with him telling about this place called The Red Rooster in Vegas where he lived for many years .
Won't go into the details with this place he told me about but the whole story was sort funny so now everytime I call him I call him The Red Rooster ! LOL
Hoping for a few comments on my new song , working on lyrics now and plan on adding vocals to it sometime around the first of next month .

I listened to this and a couple of other pieces on your site -- a collection of pleasant sounding assembled loops.  While this isn't my thing (I prefer full-bodied songs), I'm sure there's a market for it -- hope you get some traction with it.

Thanks but not sure where your getting loops , everything you hear I created using no loops as you put it .
Maybe it sounds that way to you , I used Rapture to create some of what you hear and some other sequencer sounds but that's pretty much it .
Thanks for the comments , cheers !

Hi J.S.

I enjoyed this very much. Great recording, well defined and good separation with air.  I am new to this critiquing thing so I hope that translates to something meaningful. The start scared the @&$#! out  of me. Eager to hear more. Well done.

Regards,

Thanks MCi for the listen and comments , yea that rooster crowing sort has a frightening effect on the listener I guess . LOL
Right now I'm trying to wrap my head around some lyrics for Steves song I created for him but it's slow going right now , it's been years writing any lyrics or adding in my own vocals .
Have some ideals and how I want my vocals to sound , it's making it happen that counts .
Hopefully by mid May it will be completely finished for him , I talked to him from Florida where he lives with his daughter and grand child and he was asking me when is the song to be finished and I told him soon I hope but if you want I can mail you the music and he replied with I will wait so I guess I better get moving ! LOL

Listened a second time James, you've really made strides on your mixes and playing. I get it, it's groove music.

Although I think this tune needs something, not sure, maybe a GREEN type of sound..... I'm pickled just thinking of what that sound might be.........

LOL!!! I'm kidding man, Great work!!! Keep on keepin' on my friend!!!

Boy, do I love reverb!  It makes the relatively sparse arrangement sound huge while adding a mysterious undertone.  I take the rooster to be kind of a wake up call.  You've managed to juxtapose some interesting moods in a very creative way.  Well done.

All the best,
Lynn

Maybe I'm drunk or my high end ear buds (Sennheiser IE6) are shot, but that sounded like about 200% more reverb than I would have put on a piece like that. It's swimming in reverb IMO. But.... maybe that's what you wanted so it's all good in the hood.

Re: My Newest Song - Red Rooster 2016/04/26 20:36:45 (permalink)
Thanks Lynn , I'm always looking for new ways to be created and improve my music and mixes .
My newer computer crashed on me so I'm now working with my old computer .
Had problems with too many tracks recorded and had to take some of my tracks and turn them into wav files after mixing them first .
That's not the way I wanted to finish this song but after working with everything I recorded and mixing everything about ten times over the song sounded pretty good in my ears . I really need a new more powerful computer to work with but it's takes money to do that , my new car monthly payments and other monthly bills isn't helping me reach that goal so I work with what I have and be thankful I have something to record with .
Thanks Lynn for the listen and comments , cheers !

Re: My Newest Song - Red Rooster 2016/04/26 21:16:52 (permalink)
I really liked Red Rooster.

Betty Lu was nice, too, but there's some lo-fi grit going on in places. Maybe it's intentional and I'm showing my geezerdom, but if I heard that in one of my mixes I'd start soloing tracks to figure out if something was clipping. Can't hear it clearly enough to tell you which track it's coming from, but I hear it more in the left channel if that helps.

Good frequency balance on both tunes. So often material of this genre is overly bass-heavy, usually due to sub-par monitoring that forces folks to guess where the bass should be. Listening here on a full-range system, it's right where it should be.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I'd let the reverb on the initial rooster wash its decay into your track - it cuts off abruptly as you begin the song.

I'd like the rooster to be in the same room.
Watch out for comb filtering.  :)

sounds good - I agree with Bapu on the reverb, it's a monsoon where a cloudburst might do. Still sounds cool, though.

cheers,
-Tom

Swimming in reverb , yes there's reverb added to the rooster crowing , reverb added to my electric guitar tracks , no reverb on my bass track or my synth pad tracks .
Reverb added to my violin track and with my saxophone track , that's it .

Thanks for the swim lesson , your a life saver ! James

Very nice ambient groove there J.C. I agree with Serious Noize that it does need something in the middle (vocals or melody) which should give it a full body.

Nice mix of sounds....yeah that Rooster was a bit shocking :)....the Red Rooster must've been a alternative place for those that didn't go to the Chicken Ranch?

I enjoyed your track Slowburn.......very cool groove and something I can imagine soloing in to. :))

Thanks for your listen and comments , so you know about that Red Rooster place in Las Vegas ! LOL
Yea I plan on adding vocals to it soon , I promise my best friend Steve I would have it finished with lyrics and vocals early next month .
The Chicken Ranch is the next best place to go if your into all of that stuff , not sure if I would ever go to any of those places but from what he was telling me those places are always busy , I wonder why ! LOL

Just for the record this song is not swimming in reverb , yes there's some reverb and that's ok because I like the way it sounds right now .
I play it in my car and it sounds great , play on my CD home stereo and it sounds great and using my monitor mixing speakers it sounded great but I guess there will always be a few who want to go backwards instead of moving forward !
I might make small changes here and there but it's not going to be very much , I'm happy with the way it sounds now but again you can't make everyone happy .

Cheers ! James
