Red Rover Remote Control for $29

This little box looks kool, kinda like a AlphaTrak, and Cake has drivers in the tech support page. for 29 dollars can't go wrong, since they were 199 originally

anybody using one ???

edit looks like it is a discoed product so maybe getting support may be an issue ...

.... Cake has drivers in the tech support page....

If you mean the link at the bottom that says "Software support for Sonar 4", it's coming up empty for me.

Thanks, Musicman, followed the CW link, but then it asks me to verify that I'm a registered Sonar 4 user! LOL (I was, at one point, but don't remember where I stored the old registration info).

Anyway, I wouldn't be interested in this unit unless someone here could verify that it works with Sonar 8.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those "problem accounts" where nothing shows up. (Yes, I've contacted CW about this... And no, I'm not overlooking anything - it's just broken).

Not a biggie. Like I said, unless someone can confirm that RedRover works with Sonar 8, I'm not that interested. (Anyway, I've got my eye on the Frontier Design Tranzport, so will probably get that pretty soon).

There's still a 'RedRover' controller surface plugin that ships with Sonar (S7, at least). Options -> Controllers/Surfaces ...
The plugin options aren't exactly exhaustive, but not quite spartan, either. It appears to match the level of functionality shown on the hardware unit.

It says it works up to ten feet? That seems short

Is it infared or FM/VHF/UHF a-la trazport.

PLUS!! Oh no. No Undo. or locate of markers?

it is tethered by a USB cable ... but I think you could extend that distance a bit (not 50 feet though)
well it was a fore runner of remote controls so a lot of the undo and marker stuff may not be there , but for 29 bucks ??
BTW the thing may be out. of stock at the retailer I mentioned anyway

I do see some available online. Can anyone say for sure that this works with Sonar 8? If it worked with Sonar 4, what may have changed as far as compatibility?

They say because they ask for signatures on all shipments.

This thing came out and worked with Adobe Audition at the time. I'd pass and even save your $29

OK. So does anyone know for sure that this will work with Sonar? If it does, it would be great for an extra transport controller.

I use my Red Rover (which I bought when I upgraded CoolEdit Pro way back when) with Sonar V8.3.1, and have been using it all along. No, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, and yes, it is tethered, but it lets me get work done, and I already have it. If I didn't have a couple other things on the tobuy list I'd grab a Tranzport... it is, overall, a better device. However, if I didn't have a remote control at all, and I could get a Red Rover for $50 I'd grab it.

I haven't gone to SONAR 8 yet, but Red Rover has worked fine with all of my versions up through 6.2.1 (which is what I'm still running, until I have enough downtime to mess with an upgrade).

As far as cable length, I have it on a 25 foot USB extender, with no issues, but had to plug the extender into a *powered* USB hub for it to work.

I also use the Tranzport when traveling, and can get certain things done faster and more efficiently with the Tranzport because of its slightly broader feature set; but I still find the Red Rover extremely useful in my vocal booth at home.

I've done that also... I was on a tracking session out of town, and had forgotten my Tranzport. I found a cordless keyboard and mouse for about $20 at a local Radio Shack, and used that instead. It worked fine, but obviously had no visual feedback (the Tranzport and Red Rover will show you what track you're controlling, where you are in the timeline, etc.), and because it was an extremely inexpensive cordless kit it had a more limited operating range - I had to extend the receiver with a USB extender, and tape it high up on a mic stand in the control room.

Wouldn't mind transport controls sitting on my Keystation 88ES, is the Red Rover worth it or just reach over to my right to reach my Tranzport?

I have, and use one... all functions work, master volume controls main out, but I don't remember if that was default behavior or if I had to configure it... I don't remember having to do much to get it working, so it may have been the default behavior.
