Red is the color of my....

good friend Steve's guitar top.

I'm not sure if Steve has seen this or the alternate look
but since it's my first attempt at dyeing I thought I'd post....it will change
if Steve wants a different look but here it is now.

This is a transparent dye that can be mixed with water or alcohol. I used water.
It can be sprayed or applied with a cotton rag. I used a rag rolled into a ball.
Problem with wiping on can lead to streak marks. I prepped the wood to 1500 grit
before attempting and streaking was not an issue. Not sure if prep work was reason....
not enough experience to say.
I dyed it with black first, let it dry and sanded. Sanded until I got the clear maple amount I
wanted. Originally the edges were much darker such as a sunburst. I decided I didn't
want the sunburst look- re-sanded and redyed. I liked the look so sanded again and hit
with another coat of red...and this is it as I finished a little while ago.

Come to think of it Michael, I wonder if Strummy said "I hope it shreds" and with his authentic English accent you heard it as "I hope it's red".

Bapu I know he said shred with some other choices and...well....I hope he likes red!
I have something new to builds so a cool surprise for you and Grant....you'll know
soon....I love the suspense, don't you guys?  lol ...you'll like it.

Man this forum software....I wasn't finished but it thought different...finally got back though.

Old55...kinda felt like I was slackin'. This build is really different and I've done a lot of sitting and
wondering......mostly how the heck do I do this!

I am so excited

I explained to my wfe after the first coat with the very dark border..
I could put some yellow in the middle and do a sunburst....I knew Steve
didn't want yellow so I eliminated that dark border.

Steve's hard to fake out..he ask's the right questions and expects
the right answers...so if I can hang with him, he should have a very
bad boy axe to swing...er...shred.

I would have mounted that pickup on a spinning disc....

And pretty darn observant. lol
