Redirecting midi into Session Drummer

Kind members of this forum, please help. I struggle with drums and midi.
I often download a canned midi file in order to use the drums/bass for a backing track.
When I attempt to make the drums sound richer by inserting a Session Drummer
track and redirecting the output from the midi drum track into the Session
Drummer track, things get all goofed up. The same thing happens
when I also copy the midi notes directly into the Session Drummer Track. I am guessing
that the drum components of the downloaded midi track don't match the drum components
of the Session Drummer track, that is a snare = snare. Is there a way to fix this?

Also where do you get drum kits to add as an instrument-- under Track
Properties/Instruments?

Running Sonar 8.5, Session Drummer 3 and Dimension Pro

Thanks....

I don't quite understand what you say you're doing.
Is it real acoustic drums that you are trying to make richer by adding Session Drummer?
If not, what is producing the drum sound before you add SD? MIDI is data and can not carry sound.

If you get MIDI-drum tracks from here and there it is very likely that they are not all mapped in a similar way. SD uses GM (General Midi) mapping IIRC.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

How far off are the midi notes that don't play right? If they are off by an octave you can change the base octave for pitches in Options>Global>General Tab.

    From the help file:

    "Base Octave for Pitches
There is no industry standard for numbering octaves. By default, SONAR calls MIDI note 0 (the lowest possible note) C0. The Yamaha FB-01, for example, shows MIDI note 0 as C-2 (C negative 2). To match SONAR to that standard, set Base Octave to –2."

If you aren't sure how far off the notes are you can compare them by inserting a Session Drummer instrument track and comparing the note numbers of the notes that trigger the drums to the notes in the midi file that don't trigger the right drum sounds.

Thanks for help so far.  My steps; I download a complete midi-song from the web and import-midi it into a project. I mute out the tracks that I want to play for practice.  In other words I am creating a backing track. By default all the instruments/tracks play through GS Microsoft Wavetable Synth and often sounds "Cheesy". For example to improve the bass, I insert a Dimension pro track and pipe the bass track through it instead. It all works great except for drums. When I insert a Session Drummer track and pipe the drums through it, it sounds like it is all out of time, I expect because the instruments don't match the settings for the drum components in Session Drummer.

I will try to transpose the notes in the Session Drummer tracks, thanks that may work!

Are any of these Midi songs available for us to download? If we could look at the file it might help to see where the problem lies.
