Re-enabling Auto Track Zoom disables auto lane expansion and tracks jump (Confirmed by CW)
When Auto Track Zoom is enabled, each track automatically expands take/automation lanes when clicked (you need to expand them beforehand). But if you disable and re-enable ATZ, the auto expansion stops working, and toggling the Solo or Mute button makes tracks jump (weirdest behavior I've seen in X3......actually, I've just checked X2 and it shows almost the same behavior). Luckily, this is no longer an issue for me because, after more than a year-long use of Auto Track Zoom, I finally realized that I don’t like the feature. So I decided to disable it permanently and I feel great now.
If you want to observe the weird behavior, follow these steps...
1. Create a new project.
2. Drag whatever audio or MIDI file you like from the Browser into the blank area of the Track view Clips pane (this will create a new track).
3. Change the background color of the clip (using the Clip Properties Inspector) to make the clip stand out.
4. Enable Auto Track Zoom (View->Auto Track Zoom, or Shift+Z).
5. Right-click on the track and click Clone Track, tick the Clone Events box and enter "4" in the Repetitions field. Click OK.
6. In each track, click both the Take Lanes button and the Automation Lanes button to show the lanes.
7. Minimize the four non-current tracks. At this point, your Track view should look like this:
8. Click each track. You can see that each track automatically shows its lanes when clicked. Nice.
9. Toggle the Solo or Mute buttons of the five tracks and make sure you don't see any strange behavior.
10. Disable Auto Track Zoom (Shift+Z) because sometimes you want to disable it.
11. Re-enable Auto Track Zoom (Shift+Z again).
12. Try steps 8 and 9.
[Expected Results]
Each track still automatically shows its lanes when clicked, and toggling the Solo or Mute buttons works smoothly as before.
[Actual Results]
Four tracks that were non-current tracks when you disabled Auto Track Zoom now fail to automatically show their lanes when clicked, and toggling the Solo or Mute button makes other tracks jump (in a big project with many tracks this strange behavior takes much longer to stop).
Fortunately, there's a quick fix to this issue, which is to lock the current screenset when you are between steps 9 and 10, and reload the screenset when the issue happened.
Btw, if you use keyboard shortcuts Shift+T (expand/collapse Take lanes for current track) and Shift+A (expand/collapse Automation lanes for current track) at step 6 and then do steps 7, 8 and 9, you'll see the same issue. This means that using the two keyboard shortcuts aren't exactly the same as using the two expand/collapse buttons.
