Re-installation of Pentagon, anyone?
Hi all,
During my recent upgrade to X2 some of the older soft synths bit the dust and I'm working on a project that used Pentagon and, having trawled through the newer soft synths without finding anything that suits the project quite as well, I'm keen to re-install it!
I've downloaded the last few upgrades but still have discs for Sonar 8 PE.
If anyone knows how I could re-install Pentagon I'd be much obliged if you could share.

pentagon is installed in x2
but its used like a plug in not a "insert synth"
u use it almost just like a vst, in the plug in box

It does, but it doesn't load..
just tried it loads fine here, played a midi file from the browser, i'm using 32bit sonar x2 and also run sonar as administrator.

Yeah, running Sonar as Administrator seems to be the key thing here.

Your saying it stiil does not work when you run as administrator? In that case something else is wrong. It should load fine in 64 bit X2. (Just stay clear of presets using the valley simulator, they dont work, its a know issue.)

Right click over X2 in the Programs list and go to properties. Under the Compatibity tab click "Run this program as an admin..." at the bottom and click OK. Do the same for Pentagon and you will never have to manually "run as admin".

Hi, thanks for your help; I'm having difficulty finding a program list that allows me a right-click option that does more than offer 'uninstall'. I'm using W8 and am locating the program list via Control Panel. Is there another way to find a list of programs that will enable me to apply these suggestions? Thanks all for your comments! Dave

On the Windows 8 Start screen, do you have a SONAR tile? If so, right click it and you should get an option along the bottom of the screen to 'Run as administrator'. I have a shortcut on the Desktop. Can't remember if I created this, but the steps are right click on the desktop, New > Shortcut, then browse to the SONAR executable ("C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR X2 Producer\SONARPDR.exe"), give it a name then Finish. Once you have the shortcut, you can right click it to run as Admin, or in the Properties, set 'Run this program as an administrator' on the Compatibility page, to run as Admin when click starting the normal way.

Thanks for the further explaination, Adrain. I thought the "Programs List" location was obvious. My apologies, Dave. I access SONAR and all other programs from the desktop in Win8 (and not the new RT Start screen), much like the older versions of Windows.

It's a stubborn one, this!
I've tried the suggestions kindly offered by fellow forumites and, so far, have been able to see the GUI for Pentagon but have not been able to hear anything. Sonar has ended up crashing both times I've tried to encourage Pentagon to respond to setting adjustments. As I've not had any other crashes with X2 it seems likely that something's happening with Pentagon that probably ought not to be :-)
Any further suggestions anyone?

These are just total shots in the dark -
Make sure there's only one copy of the program file on your hard drive, by searching the drive for "Pentagon I.dll".
The other thing is to check the version. There's a discrepancy on my machine between the version number that appears from within Pentagon and the number that is given in the file properties. I'm using Win 7, so I don't know how this works in Win8, but find the dll on your hard drive, click on the properties, and then on the "Details" tab to find the version number. On my installation (which works fine), it is 1.5.0.0. Strangely, if I check the version from within Pentagon, it is 1.4 - I'm assuming there was an oversight somewhere along the line.
Finally, there's another little dll that accompanies the main one. I don't know what it does, but it's there in the same folder. It's "P1DXi.dll". You might want to check to see if it is there on your system.

Thanks, wr, for your suggestion. Turns out I had 7 copies, 5 on external drive (I removed 3). I now have versions on C drive in both Prog Files and Prog Files(x86) and external drive copies of both of these. However, the project still crashes when I try to do anything to it whilst the Pentagon GUI is open... I'm hopeful that someone here will be able to spot the solution (should it appear in both lots of Prog Files?) Thanks, again, for your help! Dave

Since you are running 64-bit Sonar, I think you should only have the dll in your Program Files directory on your C drive - the Program Files (x86) directory is for 32-bit stuff. The external drives shouldn't matter unless you set up your plugin manager to look at them.
I would either rename or remove the instance under Program Files (x86) and see if that helps.
