Re-installing 8.5 technical coffee house question that's not in Am

I know this is the coffee house but I was drinking coffee as I typed, so here I am.

So, I need to install 8.5 on a new build.
How do I bring over any configurations from my previous setup?
I have templates and colors and key bindings exported, so, that's covered.

Is there something I should do with the aud.ini or some other file?
Should I copy/paste my whole 8.5 directory so Sonar might see it during install and take whatever it needs? Pretty sure that won't work.

What about all my effects presets? Oh no.

I don't even know what I ain't got....

This is going to be painful.

Any ideas appreciated.

yes, it's painful.  I've done it myself, actually more than once in the last year!

copying your aud.ini file is not a bad idea if you've made any modifications to it.  however, if all you've ever done is set up your soundcard then I wouldn't worry about it.

I would not recommend copying the whole directory - you could end up screwing something up like that.

    Thanks Beag..

I don't know. I've got copies of directories and stuff from back to ProAudio days, and Sonar 2 and 7.
I'm wondering if that is what is causing this mess I describe here:

I'm a-scared to post my 8.53 questions over on X1 but nobody goes to 8.5 forum. They're all here I guess..

yeah, the newer versions of sonar put things everywhere, I thought that actually started in S7 or S8.  and they got worse with each version.

I don't know about the C:\program data folder - are you sure it doesn't say C:\program files ?

also, make sure in windows that you set up the folder options to be able to "see" all of the hidden and system files or you won't be able to find things like the ini files and stuff if you're looking for them because they will be hidden by windows (microsoft does that to "help" us because they know that 90% of computer users should not be looking at system and hidden files for any reason).

ok I had to go look and yes, mine has a c:\programdata folder as well.  I think that's new for win7.

I googled a little and I think it started in Vista. It is a hidden folder. Best I can figure, it is just another attempt by Microsoft to protect us from ourselves By having program data and user data somewhere that most users won't see and therefore won't delete.

I'll have to check again, but, I think that is the only place (search) that turned up the normal.cwt file.
If so, that would be weird.

I have several "normal.cwt" files on my system, but I also have several versions of sonar.  here's where X1 uses normal.cwt on my system.
