Reinstalling Sonar 8.5 and V-700
Hi! I bought a Sweetwater CPU and sonar 8.5 with a V-700C and 2 V-700R's almost 5 years ago and my system is getting pretty twitchy. I just purchased a new CPU and plan to start from scratch on an install with a new system. I have been using Windows 7 32 bit but my new CPU has 8gb of ram and a 64 bit system.
When I bought my system I had Sweetwater install everything before shipping it to me so I haven't had to do a fresh install. So my question is if there's anything I should look out for? I'm thinking I should install Sonar first and then install the drivers for the V-700 system. I know I successfully updated the the V-700R's internal drivers a few years ago, but I wasn't able to successfully upgrade the internal drivers for the V-700C - I tried to get my Fantom synth to work again after if stopped working and I could never get the issue resolved. I'm hoping a fresh install of everything on a clean PC will give me access to the synth, as well as reduce latency issues that have been creeping up.
I've been using the old CPU only for recording so I think I'm pretty lucky I've gotten 5 years in without any major problems. I was considering dumping my entire system and rebuilding with a Mac and protoools but I really like Sonar and I don't have a lot of $ around to start from scratch. It's a shame that the old V-700s are no longer supported. If they were I might consider moving past Sonar 8.5 and Windows 7. But I'm not that great at computer troubleshooting and figure I should stick with what I know will work.
My plan is to leave my current setup alone since it is functioning, and simply try installing everything on the new CPU. If I have a session I can just plug all the hardware back into my old CPU and I'm good to go until I'm 100% sure the new CPU is functioning. Am I fooling myself that this will work?
Thanks
Russell
