Relab LX480

Since we were discussing the Lexicon 480...

Relab LX480 on sale at PluginDiscounts for $299...

http://plugindiscounts.com/index.php?id_category=47&controller=category

Lowest price I've seen for it...but, with all the others out there...too much IMO...

Mike, honestly, no I haven't...I'm sure it's nice...it better be for $499 (even $299 on sale!)

I was looking at the Relab 480XL when I learned about the Exponential Audio Reverbs, and I never got around to trying it after I bought Phoenix and R2.

I tend to focus on whether I am actually going to use something. If I am actually going to use it, the price seem to be a secondary concern.

The Relab seems like it will appeal to people who enjoy the format of the Lexicon hardware layout.

I'm tempted just to listen to see how it stacks up to
my others...I know the 480 is reknown....so...if they
did it justice, I can see the appeal...

Still way out of my league even at that price...

PS....even at 50 cents right now it's out of me league

Yup, like you I simply cannot afford this one. Even if it was $48.00 I'd have to consider it heavily. I was able to get LXP because of a cash birthday gift I got.

the contenders for that lush Lexicon sound seem to be:
    * Exponential Audio - both plug-ins sound glorious, not cheap, not meant to be. Beyond my budget at the moment, but high on my list!
    * Relab LX480 - the only algorithm I've really listened to is the random hall, which is the one many of us are looking for anyway, and it is awesome. I tried the demo way back before it was released, and it is awesome! I'm seriously considering selling a body part to get it while it is on sale.
    * Valhalla DSP - it is tempting to say "for the price" but in fact I think these hold up well to their more expensive brethren. Since I was specifically looking for the Random Hall I compared the Vintage Verb to the LS480 Lite and the differences were subtle. Still not sure I could reliably pick them out in a blind test.
    * UAD Lexicon 224 - no random hall, but dang, this thing has that lush, detailed, gorgeous Lexicon sound. I don't know that I'd buy a UAD2 card to get the 224, I would buy one to get the Plate though!

So what do I use? Mostly I use a PCM-90, which has the random hall algorithm, and it sounds great! I plan to pick up the Valhalla plugs (probably all of them) over the next month or so, and then I'll struggle over the EA vs Relab.

I use the EMT 140 on nearly every drum track. Been trying out the LXP on drums lately. I have Vahalla Room. I like it but it does not WOW!!!! me.

I put a 10 second tail on Exponential Audio's Phoenix v2 today and turned the mix down so I could barely hear it.

    Ohhh La La.

It's on sale for 30% off regular price this week.

I'm probably just living in the past when I wanted the umpty-thoudand dollar 480L reverb.

I probably have all I need (except a 10 second trail with all the tracks turned down, that may just be NUTZ)

    bapu, you made me laugh.

In all seriousness, being able to dial up 10+ second tails is pretty darn nifty.

I've got LXP too...and it comes sorta close to this and it makes me smile...
But I have to say...this thing is a smooooooth operater....
    Smmmmmmmmmmmmmmmooooooooooooth  Operator...

    Very nice sound...its smooth...by the way...did I say it's smooth...

Zo's right...this isn't the "hit the install" and it loads plugin...
It's extract and move and set up...but once it's setup....NICE.

    Can't afford it...can't have it...but...NICE.
