Remember. CAL

I'm sure old timers remember CAL. It was a nice idea....being able for example to design a gui to control your synths was great. The problem was that it was complexe so I gave it a shot and forgot about it like many others judging by the small number of GUIs that were created.

Well, the theme editor reminds me of CAL. being able to customize your views.....wow. So I was eager to have a look I concluded after 10 minutes that it would too much of my precious free time to do something good with. So thinking about CAL I closed everything and I will not touch it again. I'll stick to what's available by default.

That said, it worth bringing the idea to the table as I am sure there are lot of creative poeple that have the time and interest in this stuff and only time will show its success. I just hope this won't become a regular "the big deliverable in this month's update" goodie.

M 2cents....nickel since 1 cents are no longer used in Canada...(-:

Are you confusing CAL with StudioWare? CAL was limited to simple dialogs and primarily designed for MIDI data manipulation. StudioWare was used to develop graphical panels to control external hardware. Development on both stopped around the same time.

Mind you, it is possible to integrate CAL with controls on Studioware...  I have made quite a few Studioware panels that incorporate CALS on some of the controls to extend the MIDI functions.

You do need to be careful using some CAL commands in the latest Sonar, however, as some that worked perfectly in cakewalk Pro Audio 9 can crash Sonar.

    Yes...

I used them both... I created a few Studioware panels that have been handy and I still use cal routines somewhat often... I always hoped the Bakers would add an editable macro recorder... That would be very handy!

I guess cal routines that used keyboard commands might be messed up since the re-mapping...

One evening with VS-20 and I have understood for what StudioWare like "thing" can be good, especially when combined with Control Surface API: FX/ProChannel module which can "recall" the audio interface gain and other input settings, setup direct monitoring when the track is armed, etc. In other words, deep integration between Sonar and digitally controllable interfaces (VS-20, RME, Digital Mixers, etc.)

I have used them, and created a couple here and there, and hope that option is left to be used by those of us that DO continue to use them.

CAL is baked into SONAR, so it would require effort to remove it. There is no harm in leaving it in place, so it will most likely remain "as is."
