I only downloaded X2a last week. I thought the improvements were mainly for touch screen users. I'll catch up sooner or later.

Me too.....well not last week but last month. I'll always play catch up as I don't have a special need to have the latest/greatest when they first come out..........sometimes it's just better when the dust settles......

Seriously though (this upstairs roight?), I'll need to be really enticed to jump on X3. I'm not really plagued by lack of color customization (even though I'd like more of it). Take lanes are a pain but I honestly don't use them all that much because I usually get it right the first time . All the other complaints about MIDI, automation and stuff (mostly workflow IMHO) are just not THAT big of a PITA to me. All in all X2a gives me what I need. I have the same wishlist I've had since X1 came out: 1. Nested folders 2. Full color customization 3. Drums maps that REALLY work I even got about seven or eight forum members to post an enhancement request along with me for the drum map thing. I never expect to see #1. Probably nobody but me sees it as an advantage. I honestly expect to see some improvement #2 in X3 but it will probably not be enough for those that hate the X1/X2 paradigm. So in conclusion even if all of the above was in X3 I'm not sure I'll be ready to justify the upgrade expense from the get go.

What kinds of things are hoping for with drum maps? I used to rely on drum maps but then I started using sticks again.

mike_mccue What kinds of things are hoping for with drum maps?
For one I'd like the bug to be fixed. I've posted about this upstairs numerous times. Insert a soft synth (Session Drummer) with multiple outs. Assign Kick, snare, toms, OH etc to individual audio outs(tracks). Use a drum map. Now while the project is playing say you want to solo just the snare (a very common event in the mix process). If you do it with a drum map it will not solo. If you do it without a drum map it WILL solo. The only way to solo the snare while a drum map is used is to solo the MIDI first (which then solos the whole kit) then solo the snare. Two clicks. PITA, IMHO. Then of course you can just un-solo the folder to get the whole track playing again. That part is good. This behavior has been re-produced/confirmed by quite a few users (even those that never used drum maps before) and that is how I corralled several people to submit enhancement requests and/or bug reports (can't recall which we did at the time). Beyond that, the drum map editor is about the weakest editing tool I've ever seen, but I'm not smart enough to suggest an alternative (other than accepting an Excel spreadsheet as input).

I believe you but I wasn't aware that it happened because when ever the f-boys ask me what reproducible bugs bug me I like to smugly reply; "All of them". Hey, that really sucks. If I worked at Cakewalk and knew that happened I'd probably be so irritable that I'd get fired for not being able to accept failure as the routine. I wonder if Cubase's drum maps work? best regards, mike
